Same as you would for any other book - no difference.
1. Open a Windows Explorer window and navigate to the folder on the DVD or your hard disk containing the book. 2. Run "Connect". 3. Drag the file from the Windows Explorer window onto the "Sony Reader" or "Sony Reader SD card" icon in Connect. What is the problem that you're experiencing? |

If you open the DVD to just the root folder, you will see a group of HTML files which represent the categories on the DVD. I had to go through each one to copy the files to the desktop. Do you really use Connect like in #3? I have tried and can't just drag and drop. I don't think Connect works that way. |

Sure do! You can't drag and drop into the right part of the Connect Window (the part which lists the files); you have to drag and drop onto the "icons" down the left side of the Connect window - the "Sony Reader" or "Memory Card" icons.

It doesn't work if you have libprs500's UDB driver installed, no. If you remove the UDB driver, it will work fine.

There's a conflict if you install the part of libprs500 which transfers files to the Reader, Nate - it conflicts with Connect's UDB driver. If you just use it for converting files on your hard disk and not for transferring them, there's no problem.

Sorry, bluelight, I'm afraid I don't understand what you're asking.

I was referring to converting files with lib500 in the harddisk statement and not using it for transfering

Can't help you with that, I'm afraid; I don't use it myself. Book Designer is my preferred book creation program.

When libprs500 used to by default install its USB driver, Connect still worked fine that is until I tried to use libprs500 to talk to my reader. Then it borked things pretty good. The solution to fix that was to delete the libprs500 USB driver. After that, all was well. Now the Windows inslaller lets you deselect the USB driver from being installed if you prefer to use Connect to transfer content.

Generally, I have had better luck with the Silk Pagoda DVD using it's HTML interface.
1) Open "readme.htm" from the DVD's top level directory. 2) Pick out your book, or use the search mechanism. 3) Click the link for the book, and choose "Save to disk" to copy it into a "new books directory". 4) Open CONNECT and import the "new books directory". This isn't related to this USB driver issue, but it completely avoids opening a directory with 10,000 files in it. I've had more than a couple of Windows Explorer bombs opening the storage directories on the DVD. I've also had CONNECT stall a couple of times with the "Open using CONNECT" alternative. I think that's also related to passing in a path name of a file in a directory with 10,000 items, but I'm not sure. You certainly can't open the DVD using the left hand sources menu in CONNECT, that folder never opens. |

I just signed up for the Sony Credit card hoping to get the Sony Reader for about $50. In addition, I placed an order for this DVD of classic books.
BASIC QUESTIONS: Can I use a PC with an SD card reader? Does the card need to be formatted by the Sony ebook? How can I transfer the files to the reader for viewing? (as an alternate to the posting just above this one) Is this it? (is the method above better?) Put DVD into a PC DVD drive, select the desired files and copy them to a file folder on the hard drive, insert SD card into a USB 2.0 SD card reader, drag and drop the desired files to the SD card, insert card into Sony ebook -- select file and read away? or? Thanks. future ebook user... Last edited by gardenstate; 08-16-2007 at 02:07 PM. |
