Acquired adult allergies are quite common - esp. for food or air-borne causes. Cat dander seems to be very allergenic for adults. Avoid touching your face (esp. eyes) while petting your cats.

Watch out for their paws too. Cat fever is really a pain ... My father in law became like that guy Bibendum, The Micheline character that is always smiling.

Would that be le bonhomme Michelin? Michelin is a brand of tires. Micheline is a feminine first name, or a kind of train. Neither are very much in use these days

I always hear cat scratch fever referenced but have been told it actually isn't real

edit: and a quick check as I haven't thought of or heard of it in years, shows that the only thing that can be truly associated with "cat scratch fever" is something very similar to tick fever; fever, aches and swelling, along with occasional (and temporary) swelling of the lymph nodes. I think the F.I.L. was suffering from something else

A Freudian slip. Micheline is the name of my ex wife, certainly not much useful to me in these days, but in excellent health from what I know, and Michelin is this guy here.
They still make the best snow tires that money can buy INMHO.

Well, - and well is the right word - because everything ended well - when the poor guy (1.90 m 120 kg) - started to worry for his arm, he went to the hospital which is just across the street from where he lives. At first they thought it was tetanus, but then in a couple of days they targeted it. It helped that this hospital is specialized in rare diseases(*). If I remember correctly they got it right from his good oxygen level in the blood. Gave him antibiotics and kept him in the hospital in excess of two weeks.
Of course it is always possible that they were wrong and the cure right. But who cares. Everything started where his cat scratched him.

(*) If you like freaky stories about rare diseases I have a very nice one to tell you, but unless you ask, I prefer to keep it for harsher times. Happy ending, as always with my stories.

Elvira,

Developing Allergies even after years of exposure to something is not at all uncommon,

Ahhh - there's something about an all black cat. My late cat Guinevere (RIP 12/5/2005) was totally black with just a tiny clump of white hair on her brisket. With shining yellow eyes - I called her my Halloween cat!

Something fluffy and cute, but with temper and evil masterplan.

Must be small enough to fit on a palm, and never grow up.

Must ambush annoying neighbors and relatives.

Self-cleaning, self-feeding (eating from oversize food container without making itself sick is acceptable, but hunting for food is preferable), self-potty trained.

Do I ask for too much?
