I hope, by the way, that Spanish airports do remain open. They were saying on the news this morning that most of the UK's "airmail" for destinations outside Europe is currently being driven by truck to Spain, and flown out from there, which is adding about 48h to its delivery time, but at least it's getting out.

I read in the NYT this morning that airlines are sending up test planes to see how they handle the ash. Flying through ash just might make people pay attention to the initial safety spiel on how to locate an exit and how to use your seat cushion as a flotation device!
