I FOUND THEM!!!

This morning my wife told me to check the car to see if they might have dropped out there. I didn't think so, for I could have sworn that I saw the keys in the house yesterday, but I did, and there they were in the floor of the back seat.

So Norton is off the hook, as are all the MobileRead members (I really suspected Kenny was hoarding them just to rattle my chain)!

If a company is going to offer a rebate for something, they should then pay you the rebate they promised without stringing you along for a measly $15!!

I ordered an Eee pc booster pack from Amazon which included 2G of DDR memory and a PNY 8GB memory card. PNY was offering a $15 rebate with it. I filled in all the appropriate paper work, cut out the UPC label and printed the receipt from Amazon and sent it in. After weeks of waiting, I checked the status online to see that my rebate submission was invalid because of a missing receipt! I know I sent in a copy of the online receipt from Amazon. Now their websites states that you were supposed to submit the packing slip. If that was what they wanted, they should have said it upfront. What a SCAM! Arg! I will NEVER buy anything from PNY again.

This is the reason why I generally steer clear of purchasing an item that is offering a rebate. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice shame on me.

That sucks. I do know that I have gotten rebates from them in the past....for what that is worth.

what i want to know is why a company takes less than 10 minutes to obtain money from your account, on a transaction, but if there is a refund it can take weeks .....

Because they aren't set up to process them efficiently, and don't care.

That's no surprise. Companies love rebates because they cost little. Most folks who purchase a rebated item never bother to do the paperwork and actually claim the rebate. I think the average I've seen for rebates claimed is about 3% of the total purchases.

It's not a discount applied at purchase. The rebate spurs the impulse purchase when the customer is in the store, but the customer doesn't file for it afterward, so the company gets the sale at normal retail price. For the vendor, what's not to like?

I think I'm owed a rebate by PNY, too, for an SD card purchased some time back. I shrugged and got on with my life when it didn't occur. PNY isn't my first choice for that sort of kit because my experience has been that other vendors make better products. (The card had read speeds comparable to other cards, but write speeds an order of magnitude slower.) PNY simply dropped lower on my list of who to purchase from given a choice.

Many companies wiggle out of rebates unless you happened to save the ORIGINAL Amazon packing slip - which they regard as the purchase receipt.
I'm currently doing battle with Lionsgate to get a replacement DVD for "The Dead" - I had purchased it from Amazon - but the initial DVD run had 10 minutes cut from it. Lionsgate offered to replace it if you submitted your original purchase receipt. Of course I've had the DVD for over a year, and did not keep the packing slip. I printed off everything on my Amazon account for this purchase - but nothing was acceptable to them except the original packing slip. They won't even accept the DVD itself as proof I bought it and own it.
