Seriousness UK flights grounded by Icelandic volcano - Page 7

Trust Iceland to start another disaster (sorry Iceland, not meant personal).

My thoughts go out to all travellers stranded, to all employees, to the airlines who may not recover from this.

I know lots of people trying to travel at the moment, being stranded someplace weird.

I hope everyone of you who is travelling home is making it safe and soon. Those of you planning on travelling - sounds like you can forget plane travel until at least Tuesday.

I hope some nice locals will take in some stranded passengers. I went to the airport, but no one waiting or being stranded atm. Will go again tomorrow - would hate to be in that position. And from what I hear, the hotels are getting full and not everyone can afford to spend that money. And it seems as if most travel insurances do not cover this sort of delays.

Edit: and given any comments in the papers here, everyone seems to be taking it very calmly even if the airspace has been closed since Thursday. Don't know about the press in other countries though - the press do often tend to get hysterical.

On a slightly positive note, there was an interview with a chap from the Met Office on this morning's BBC breakfast news who was saying that winds are going to continue as they are for the next 4-5 days, but there's an indication that they'll start to swing around to the south after that.

I just figured out that my parents must be stranded somewhere in Greece or thereabouts. They were supposed to fly back yesterday. I have some difficulties keeping track of where they are, I thought they were still in Florida with my sister

I'm feeling a bit guilty about this, but thanks to the volcano I got to see a dance performance last night. A friend of mine had booked two tickets to go with a friend of hers from New York, who had to cancel her trip. So I got to go in her place

It's okay to blame Iceland; but not the people ...

After all Iceland probably wouldn't exist without the volcanoes. It lies on a hot spot where two plates are moving apart. Might just as well blame Europe and North America for moving slowly away from one-another !

Which isn't good news... They closed down Barcelona today... If it goes down much further south, I probably won't be able to leave... Right now, Ryanair isn't flying at all...

We'll see, come thursday...

A south wind is good news. It's a wind from the south, so it will blow the ash northwards.

But 4-5 days isn't good news... So, while a south wind might be good, it should be blowing from the south right now!

On the other hand, if the ash came down south to here, it's only raining, and raining and raining and raining... (I think I'll rename this area the Costa Del Rain!)
