The other bit of reading I finished this week is a graphic novel entitled Mr. Grieves, Vol.1 by Cooper Johnson, Illustated by Jhomar Soriano. I can't find Vol. 2; maybe it's not out yet. Mr. Grieves isn't the best graphic novel I've seen, and it's a bit predictable and clichéd, but the artwork and lettering works well on my K2.

Finished on time and was pleasantly surprised. It wasn't nearly as horrific as I expected. In fact, I was quite happy with the completed "books".

Finished The Egg and I by Betty MacDonald and Love Among the Chickens by PG Wodehouse.

I plan on doing a quick reread before the Book Club discussion begins. (maybe view a "Ma and Pa Kettle" also)

Finished the audio of The Doomsday Key by James Rollins. My son has the pbook of this and I will borrow it to "read" again. It began with King William's 11th century Domesday Book, includes Saint Malachy's Prophecy, Colony collapse disorder of honey bees (2006), a black Madonna, and the present day with intriguing historical facts blended together in a hard to put down story. I was especially fascinated with the Author's Notes at the end.

Almost finished with The Second Coming by David Burton. It's about what happens to and in the world a few hundred years after the Earth shifted on its axis. It's a chilling future that I was drawn into with his realistic descriptions of action and scenery.

EDIT: { You can watch "The Egg and I" in 13 parts on YouTube.

*** LINK REMOVED FROM POST ***

Evidently you can't watch it on YouTube. The link I posted was to a video titled "The Egg and I Part 1 of 13." Instead of the first part of the movie, however, it linked to a theatrical trailer for the movie, and there were no more parts available. The account of the user who posted has been suspended, and the off-site link provided on their YouTube user page to "The Egg and I" is a suspicious-looking re-directional link.

Sorry about that! }

I just watch a video where someone said after that movie, the studios made the actress playing Ma Kettle wear a bra, which took away from the earthiness of the character.

(I think they stopped her from "scratching" also. )

Thanks, I just watched that and posted a clip of a Ma and Pa Kettle.

Sounds like fun! Is there really a place called the Dismal Swamp? It sounds like something out of Princess Bride

Finally finished "Howards End". Somehow I got stuck in the middle, but once I got it going again, it was very interesting.

Yep!

I've also heard it used as a nickname for the Washington, D. C. area, but I don't know how common that is.

It is fun, and there really is a Dismal Swamp, but it's more woods than swamp (although there's a lake inside it, and a river canal beside it). It has an interesting history. It was first surveyed by George Washington, and during slavery days, it's been estimated that at one time it was home to upwards of 2,000 runaway slaves. The entrance is within walking distance of my house in Chesapeake, Virginia.

I finished my TBR list last night. With my iPad, I can read again!!! With my 505, it was better than nothing, but painful for my bad eyesight.

Downloaded The Voyage of the Minotaur by HistoryWes (Wesley Allison) from Smashwords. It looks like the beginning of a beautiful series.

Yes it is! My husband is reading it now, and just seeing him reading it makes me want to snatch it out of his hands and re-read it. I ask him "so what's happening now" every five minutes or so when I see him reading it.

I'm reading the third of the Amber Chronicles' books, by Roger Zelazny, and I have to say this series is addictive as well.

Hey, DG, did you get Brechalon, the novella-length prequel to The Voyage of the Minotaur?

I'll be interested in what you think, as I picked these up also.

I read about 15 books this week while I was on vacation, and now I'm wrapping up with "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo."
