Fair enough I suppose. I still think it's more than insults at people that need dealt with.

Posting silly names for products/companies, be it iKluge, Crapple is trolling and just gets threads off topic. I'm not lover of e-ink, but I'm not going to go around the site calling it "e-suck" or some other stupid moniker to annoy people and stir crap up. The outright haters of a product should be asked to stay out of the device specific forums IMO. Leave these areas for people who own or are interested in learning about the devices to constructively discuss the pros and cons. |

This is very very common on forums where apple products are discussed in addition to other brands. I've learned this, much to my chagrin, since buying an iPhone last year. Discussing apple products in the general subforums almost always leads to it. Leaving the general subforums for apple specific ones just draws the most vehemently opposed to follow. It's unfortunate because nearly every thread devolves into the same discussion with non-users telling users why they shouldn't like their device. It's silly.

No one has mentioned the most likely reason the iPad doesn't print.

The iPad doesn't print because on OSX the printer drivers are all included, to make the process easier for the average user, and the disk size to include all the appropriate drivers is 3GB. Would you happily give up 3GB of disk space to printer drivers? And would everyone else? Or would you like to install drivers by hand? (Hell no, and Apple would never ask you to do that on a device like the iPad.) My guess is that they are working on a workaround that uses a desktop as a go-between, but that rather than implement a half-assed solution, they're taking their sweet time. |

actually drivers aren't usually 3g in size. it's the crap that comes with them that takes up that space. most actual hardware drivers are only a few k to a few meg in size.

still it's probably more of a limitation that the ipad has no easy way to install (or remove) these drivers, and that it would be yet another platform for hardware manufacturers to support (or ignore like so many do with the mac). it's just easier for apple to stay out of it entirely, let you print from your desktop. |

Seems like they could at least support (wifi) printing to Bonjour-enabled printers that happen to be on the LAN. These all look like PostScript printers, so they would only need one driver (plus APIs added to the SDK). I'm sure iPhone users could benefit from this as well.

Bonjour is already used to discover shared iTunes libraries on the wifi LAN from iPhone/iPad etc. |
