Seriously thoughtful I'm in a bind

pretty hard core! my son had been in the Navy about 4 years when he tried out for it. he said the test run was gruesome and he puked his guts out for a long time. also the ex was an Army Ranger ;o). family of warriors here I guess

KK is right, if you're going to into the military you'll get much more out of it by going active duty, it is more stable, you'll get to use what you learned more often and in more situations, and you'll develop the camaraderie and friendships that make a deployment much more enjoyable.

Most of my time was in the reserves and you can really see the difference from going once a month and being activated for a year.

I never quite understood why anyone would want to run into burning buildings, walk down dark alleys in high crime distracts, or fiddle with live explosives for a living. So instead a got a job on ships that are designed to sink.

Well, I want to do it so you don't have to... or maybe its because most people won't... I'm not entirely certain what the motivation is, but its there.

I think I'm going to call my recruiter in a few minutes and tell him that I'm not going to do the EOD thing. Its just not going to translate into what I want to do later, and it seems that there are more fulfilling options for me elsewhere.

You're a braver man than I am. I'm not claustrophobic, but I'm not sure I could handle any length of time on a sub. But hey, I hear they're going to let women on them now!!

good idea, once he sees you aren't going to fill his EOD quote I'm sure he'll "find" some other jobs that need people too.

the Canadians have been doing it for awhile now and other than a dedicated head, there aren't any other modifications that have been made. from what I have heard, this will be our template

kk, I believe that I would like to be a teacher. Something 8th grade or higher for sure, even considering college professor, but not certain. Now, as I understand it nothing in the military directly relates to that profession, but there are quite a few that would indirectly relate to it, and more than enough experience to make the heads spin of my students.

Once you reach a high enough rank or level of competency the opportunities to teach, even informally are many and varied. On the informal level there are simple classes to your fellows, sure a lot of it is make yourslef look busy types of things but teaching none the less. The next step would be an actual planned and scheduled lesson, again given to your fellows but this time on much more organized level with lesson plans and outlines required so they can be saved with the list of attendees and will serve to meet a requirement for them. Lastly, every branch of service runs, maintains, and staffs their own schools. Even if your not teach math or social studies thes schools are a highly organized and thought out system, and regardless of the curriculum, you'd still be teaching.

As Madam Broshkina pointed out there is the Troops to Teachers program as well.

That would make sense, officers have semi private (two or three people) staterooms; so putting a couple of women in one of those would be doable.
