I saw rotating screens on some of the ASUS models too - looked kinda weird - I was wondering if they were really useful. Thanks for your input!

While Not completely essential, the rotating screen can be handy if your using it when out such as on the train, on the Plane etc., where it may not be convenient or possible to open it in Laptop mode. There are plenty of times I've wished that my Laptop had such a screen.

As to whether paying the premium is worth the price is something you have to consider. The main advantage it has over other conventional Convertible laptops (Such as HP Touchsmart series Tx2, etc) is the Lighter Weight (3 Pounds to the usual 4.5-5pounds) and the longer battery life (5-6 Hours vs. 2.5-4 Hours).

Also, I've personally found that Lenovo's Build quality better then HP's Consumer Level Laptops (A few to many bad experiences). I'll have suggested Lenovo's X60 or X200 Tablets, but even at outlet prices they usually range above $800-$1000 so did not though they are really excellent machines and I'm keeping an eye out to get one myself when I can which has what I need at a reasonable price.

After much anguish & wringing of hands & research & VERY good advice from all you folk, I finally made a choice [heck, I didn't take this long to buy a new car].

I've just fired up my ASUS Eee PC Seashell 1005PE netbook, and am trying to learn my way about it. I've been trolling MR for posts on how to turn this puppy into a mean reading maching, and have learned a lot.

I plan on loading Kindle for PC, ADE, & MobiReader - to handle all formats.

What else should I have? Any & all suggestions are welcome & appreciated. I really appreciate all the input I received - you guys rock!

Glad to here that you got your Netbook. Asus makes some really nice machines.

When I knit out a machine, part of my original load up includes the following which are related to reading in some for or the other.

Mobipocket Reader (And Creater to make my own) for PRC

Adobe Reader or Digital Editions for PDF's and EPUB

yBook (Free From Spacejock Software) to Read Html, Rtf, Txt and Pdb files. Its free and privides a very nice book like layout to read on.

CDisplay for reading comics and photo archives in CBZ (zip) and CBR (rar) files. I often create my own archives from Image files and find that using this is one of the easist ways to view them.

Congrats on your new netbook! Though it may not be helpful as far as turning your new machine in to an ebook reader, the eeeuser.com website is very helpful on how to get the most out of your netbook. They have a whole sub-forum dedicated to the 1005PE.

thanks a bunch daffy! As soon as I'm done with the basic stuff [everything needs updating first] I'll wing over for tips! So far I'm very happy with it.

And thanks too bbusybookworm, I'd not heard of yBook or CDisplay - I'll be checking all of them out!
