Don't take your iPad to Israel
Israeli customs are confiscating iPads that are brought into the country:
News article Apparently the Israeli government has banned the iPad because the wifi transmitter is not compliant with local standards... |

Reading the story carefully, it appears as if this is a ban on them being imported into the country, because of a certification issue. I don't think you'd have it confiscated if you took one with you as a visitor to the country.

He was told to apply to the Communications Ministry to have it returned. When he spoke to the ministry, he was told: "It is forbidden to bring iPads into Israel; send it back overseas." I think the key word is "declare". That means the individual purchased something overseas that he/she now needs to declare to customs. If it's a product that is not allowed into the country then you have a problem which is what appears to be the case here.

Yeah, after thinking about it for a few more minutes, that certainly seems to qualify as an import.

Just spoke to a friend in Israel. He had ordered an iPad online. It's still stuck in the Israeli airport. Poor guy.

Well, the ban in Israel was lifted on Sunday
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000...651556430.html and the temporary ban in S. Korea was removed as well: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000...106530858.html When you are well connected to the Man in the Sky, miracles happen. Or, you could look at it this way. The teenage sons and daughter of influential people wanted to bring the iPads toys into their country. Who could deny a child such a request? |

Actually the ban would be far less suspicious if only authorized Apple distributor wasn't the son of the president Shimon Peres. iDigital certainly wanted to get it's cut of iPad sales in the country.
