Plucker - where is it?

Salü.

Yesterday I wanted to re-install Plucker on my Palm, but visiting the download page http://www.plkr.org/dl I got nothing but a blank page. What has happened?

I just clicked on your link and the site is working fine. Maybe just a burp?

Strange. I tried it yesterday from my computer at home and today from work, using different browsers and different OS. But the result is always the same: All I get is a page with Google-ads, two horizontal menu bars but without further text or anything in between or anywhere else on the page.

In fact, even in the HTML source of the page there is nothing besides this.

Do you use software such as PeerGuardian 2 to block IP addresses? If so, turn it off and actually delete it.

Do you have a firewall that maybe is blocking you? Do you use any of the Norton programs? If so, try turning them off.

No. No, too. Nope.

Maybe it's not clear, what I meant. The pages at www.plkr.org have a layout where first on the page are Google-ads, than an horizontal menu bar, than the content, than a second menu bar.

All pages on www.plkr.org do work well. The download page too, but on this page (and only on this) there is nothing between the two menu bars.

Through the Google-Cache I can see, what has been there on the page, but now the page is empty to me.

But, well, than it's easier for me, just to print on paper. Thanks for your help.

I had a similar problem a few weeks ago, then when I saw this thread I tried it and I got the same results Sebastiano had. I use Firefox, so I tried viewing instead in IE, and it worked fine. But when I went back to Firefox, again it was essentially blank.

It looks like a Firefox compatibility issue.

I mostly use FireFox. I just tried MSIE. When I view the page in FireFox, it looks fine. I get the teo menu bars and the text and graphics in between look fine. When I view with MSIE, the graphic is different and the graphic runs into the lower menu bar. So in my case, it looks like the site is not MSIE compatible enough where it looks fine in FireFox.

That's interesting!

I just e-mailed the webmaster there, with a link to this thread. I'll post anything significant I hear back.

Same exact link, but MSIE got a different graphic. It's possible they are checking the browser and displaying things based ont he browser.

There is no per-browser changes on the page at all (since browser detection is a dead-end anyway), and I just checked here from several browsers, and it does continue to work fine.

Nothing at all on the download page has changed in quite some time... I'm leaving it mostly untouched, until I can launch the new site (leaner, meaner, more functionality, all hand-written backend).

Make sure you're not hitting /dl/ with your browser, as that will result in a 403 error. You'll want to hit the following link:

http://www.plkr.org/dl

NOT

http://www.plkr.org/dl/

I'm responsive to any emails/bugs if you find something, but at this point, I can't see any problems with the page, and checking the stats, I see a few thousand hits per-hour with a 200 status for that page.

I also see people downloading the tarballs, zip files, etc. in the logs, which are linked from that page. If the page was blank, they wouldn't be able to download them...

Let me know if you find something, and I'll look into it on this end.

When I click that link, I get the same thing: the two navigation bars with blank space in between. But if you're getting the activity you're seeing, clearly it's working for an awful lot of folks. It must be something peculiar to some individual systems and their configurations. I'll fiddle around a bit with mine and see if I come up with anything.

And thanks for the quick response!

If you're not even seeing the page content in the source of the page, but you see the open and close html and body elements, then something else is stripping it out (some sort of filter? firewall gone awry? something else?)

If it looks like the content itself is "terminated early", like the socket dropped while it was sending the page content, then that is a different problem altogether.

Have you tried reloading from the server-side, instead of local cache? (shift+reload in Firefox, ctrl-F5 in MSIE). Does that change the results?

I got to your last post just a few seconds too late. I had already tried clearing the FF cache and history, and now it works fine.

I had already looked at the page source, comparing the working IE version with the non-working FF version, and FF really didn't have the content. It had the code for the upper navigation bar followed immediately by the code for the lower bar, so it really was displaying what it received.

No idea how that happened.

Yes, that was exactly what I got, too. I had this problem with MS IE6 and with a recent version of FF. So it shouldn't depend on the browser but on the server. It seems as if sometimes it forgets to insert the content between the two menu bars.
