Colby cheese is practically Cheddar. 50% fat. Also eating 100 tiny pieces one at the time is perfectly equivalent to eat the whole thing in just a single session. Demonstration on request.

I should have added, "Good calories, bad calories" by Gary Taubes is not a diet book. It's a critical look at the science behind what is today believed to be 'good' nutrition. As he shows in the book, there may be very good reason to be critical of those 'standards'.

Yes, the book I mentioned talks much about this issue too. He also talks a lot about how the food we eat is tied to many of the chronic health problems people have with examples of patients whom by doing nothing other than changing their diet have resolved all types of maladies.

I know about the fat. I chose it because it tastes good (so I will willingly eat it instead of Doritos) and it fills me up VERY fast! So I end up only eating a few chunks at a time. For my metabolism, drastically cutting carbs is the best weight control scheme.

And when I get out the bag, all 3 cats immediately begin screaming and begging (they love colby) - which annoys me and I put the bag away. Cats with annoying habits can really help you control your urge to snack.

There is nothing magical about not eating carbs. Carbs are better for you than FAT. FAT is stored as is... where as carbs and proteins, the other two macro-nutrients must be converted to FAT to be stored.

It's all about calories in vs calories burned. So, eating high quality low calories no fat food is the secret to the Eat To Live book. Actually, it is no secret that most people won't want to follow the diet it proposes.

Ludwig Andreas von Feuerbach (who was influential in the development of materialistic dialectic) said that man is what it eats. Which makes a lot of sense.

I ordered Bob's book. It will arrive by next Monday. I am eager to read it. I will start the research of Ea's one soon.

By the way, oh pilot, what's your daily intake? Calories I mean. With a weight reduction like the one you claim and the exercise that I induce from what I imagine of your temperament as extrapolated from your posts, it looks like you are under 1K. +/- 5%. With .9 confidence level.

Very true. My best results have come via portion size control of food I normally eat. I serve up my usual portion size and put at least 1/4 -1/3 back before I sit down at the table. And I stopped buying ALL salty junk food - I have absolutely no self-control with Doritos, etc once the bag is open. If it ain't in the house, I can't eat it.

This past winter's abnormally cold & wet weather had reduced my activity level greatly with resulting tightness in the trouser waist band. Once I could get out and walk/work in the yard, the trousers got more comfortable.

Great, you are so convincing it almost looks effective. 100 times 1/100 of 1 pound = less then a pound. A little bit at the time makes all the difference.

And when I get out the bag, all 3 cats immediately begin screaming and begging (they love colby) - which annoys me and I put the bag away. Cats with annoying habits can really help you control your urge to snack. [/QUOTE]

When I get my copy of pilotBob book I will share with you my discoveries. And you will make fun of me. I deserve it.

I did the zone some years ago and felt a lot of advantages, not only loss of weight, but more energy and zest. Zone is low on carbs.

My baby (3) cannot eat by the zone, so I hope to find in your book some principles and suggestions on how to give to all my family and myself healthy meals.

I have no idea. The book isn't about counting calories. There is none of that. You eat as much as you want to feel full... of the right foods. A by-product of that is a great reduction in calorie and fat intake.

Dr Furhman has a book specifically targeting feeding your kids right also. http://www.amazon.com/Disease-Proof-...tt_at_ep_dpt_3

He has his own web site which you might also want to check out. http://www.drfuhrman.com/

It is certainly my fault. And I take all the blame. It has been very important, though, to have a trusty testimony.

I will drop the subject, and if, when I get the book, I have some questions I will PM you. Thank you again.

Yes, but the science behind many of those ideas that is put forth in this book (I've skimmed the book you mentioned yesterday) is exactly what Gary Taubes questions. I think you ought to take a look at 'Good calories, bad calories' to get a more balanced picture. Given his investigation - and I have a good impression of his work - we should think twice about the value of this information (as it's presented in the book you mentioned - Eat to live)
