Here also. In the garden already a few potato sprouts are showing, along with one sprout of corn. The strawberry plants are already producing a few strawberries. I also have about six tomato sprouts that aren't quite ready for planting in the garden.

This morning, the wife and I went to the local feed and seed and bought several plants. We got some tomatoes, squash, green bell peppers, jalapenos, and sweet yellow peppers. I'll plant them Saturday if not before.

And I released 1,500 lady bugs into the garden. I hope at least a few stick around.

Where did you get 1,500 ladybugs to release? Also, why would you do that? Are they good for gardens - I'm a novice...

The local feed & seed store my wife and went to this morning were selling bags of them as a means of natural pest control. $8.00 for 1,500 of them. I took their word on the number, as I didn't do a headcount!

I've always heard they were good for gardens, but I've never really researched the issue.

Last summer Lowe's was selling them in bags of 350 for a few bucks (don't remember exactly how much.) The displays are not that obviously placed, so you might have to search or ask in order to find them anywhere.

I've always heard they're good to have in gardens too. Besides . . . they're so cute.

Hmm, I never realized they were good for gardens. I just read up a bit on them, thanks for pointing it out. Around my house though we generally get the Asian ones, equally good for your garden apparently but more of a nuisance and not as pretty looking as the red ones.

They control the aphids and Hemiptera. And they are very cute. Before of all this biological control, long time before that, my grandfather used to cuddle them with lot of affection.

Round ladies, all shaped like orange VW bugs!

Not gangbusters yet, but I'm hoping. I've been preparing the garden since last Fall.

So you're a "Hero of the Garden" as well as the beach.

No, just working harder, and hopefully smarter, than last year. Last year was my first real effort, and it was a dismal failure. I could even keep the family supplied with tomatoes, and anyone can grow tomatoes!

But I've been doing a bit more prep for this year's garden. Cross your fingers for me!

We'll be looking forward to your updates!

I really should put a garden in but....

Particularly reading and applying "Eat to Live" need lots of fresh veggies.
