Well, when getting a new PC there's always the issue of downloading and re-installing ad nauseam

But I do look forward to freedom from the iPod!

That's why I added "once you get it set up". For me who frequently install and uninstall the OS I make sure I have all data on a separate partition so It's just the OS and the programs that needs configuration.

Another more easy way is to use the program Acronis True Image and regularly take snapshot images of your hard-drive. This saves a lot of time on the restore process and you will get a system that looks exactly as the previous one. I use it all the time and couldn't be happier since it saves me a lot of time otherwise spent on configuration.

Ah, yes, partitioning, that's yet another thing to do. Do you know any good (cheap ?) partitioning software?

Thanks for the link to acronis - I have been looking før something like that.

Depends on which OS you are using and if you want to do it on the fly without effecting the current OS.

For Windows there's Partition Magic which covers a lot of options. It can split your hard drive on the fly without messing up your current system.

Aaahh!! Feels so nice to be able to stretch my hands again and actually be able to hit the right keys the first time
The courier service was early - 7 a.m. Nice! So now I've already spent half the day partitioning and installing stuff, etc.

Thanks for all your help and words of encouragement - it was appreciated

And it now looks like that my netbook can be fixed by flashing the BIOS

PartitionMagic hasn't been opdated for Win 7, but I found something (free) called PartitionWizard with an interface that's almost a clone of PartitionMagic (as I remember it).

Glad you worked it out. I'm still on Win XP, but my next laptop will probably be with win7 given that I can get all the programs I need.
