Yesterday in the mail, I received a letter from my local humane society, asking me to donate to help prevent dog and cat overpopulation.

I swear to God, my very first thought was: "Who can I donate to to prevent human overpopulation?"

Your local Humane Society. With a strong suggestion they expand the scope of their spaying and neutering program...

Well, it is my belief that most of the major issues we face as a species (pollution, global warming, hunger, poverty) are due to over-population. I suppose if we could somehow better allocate corporate profits and use the money to solve our major issues we'd be okay for a while, but even then the population would continue to rise until it was a problem again unless the population issue was addressed as well.

Maybe we should put all our scientific research into finding alternate dimensions we could move to or begin building generation-ships in space.....

I'm finally back on line at home - FINALLY! Never did manage to get through to Verizon about my outage.

So called Time Warner - said the earliest appointment would be Thursday. So went to their local payment center and asked for a DIY kit. They said for wireless, a tech had to set it up. I fumed. They said wait - there's an opening on the Sunday afternoon schedule. I said fine. Sunday morning tech calls and says "I'm 10 minutes away" I say "come on over" And the fun begins. First he finds the wiring for the house is not code - but fixes it. Then he finds no cable box - but fixes it. Then he sets up the wireless router - and finds he doesn't know the IP address assigned to the router - but fixes it. Then we're setting up my laptop and it won't log on to the router - but he fixes it.
FINALLY - it all works! He was great.

I spent the afternoon ripping out all of the $#%&)_++*(&*^$# DSL cabling and boxes in the house and threw it out!
I'm tired now, but smiling.

The solution to over-population is development. People in developed countries have fewer children, to below replacement level.

If we can manage the next 50 years, the next big problem will be the shrinking population...

You know the oceans cover 71% of this planet. I often wonder why there isn't more research being done to put colonies out there.

Then again I've probably watched SeaQuest a few too many times.

But your point is well taken; we do need to learn to live spread out more, and not foul up the only living space we have.
