they don't have "business level" and "non-business level". it's all the same offer. regardless, if i am losing half a month of a service it's not normal to charge me for it.

Service Level Agreement. Most hosters and ISPs have one. It states in their terms what type of service the promise to provide as far as uptime, connectivity, etc.

No, I agree... that pretty much sucks. But, their not liable for any business losses you might have incurred... most ISP arrangments/contracts say that. But, of course you should be refunded if you were down for so long.

I know of several people that run a business out of their house and they have two internet connections just for this issue. There are even some routers that will work with dual internet connections.

ah ok. i have no idea if they have one, to be honest. i may have known when i signed up but it was so many years ago if i ever did know i forgot it.

i don't mean business losses ; i mean a refund of what i will pay for the connexion which is not connected ! plus the wifi key. that seems fair to me.

i don't know if that would be possible. i only have one telephone socket / line. i don't know where i could connect a second internet account.

i could switch but really objectively this one is the best, when everything is going well. it's competitively priced (30€/ month), excellent bandwidth and it keeps improving (for the same price), free unlimited telephone including international calls... the problem is that when something goes wrong it can become a nightmare. but that's not necessarily specifically limited to them...

Only orange have some kind of advantage, because they deal with their own lines.

In my case i didn't manage to connect even once, so i didn't paid for the time I waited. Maybe once all is fixed, you can get a refund depending on how long your internet was down.

Well, zelda, apparently spiders aren't the only things you have been trebucheting my way. My home Verizon DSL has been going off & on for the last 2 weeks. When I called their service number last weekend, I got a recorded message that said lots of people were offline and they were working on it. Then it came back on. Then went off.

I've been without DSL now for 4 days. Calling their service number puts you into an endless phone tree menu that passes you from recorded message to recorded message, never reaching an actual human voice. To make you think someone is listening to you, you are occasionally prompted to answer yes or no to inane questions like: "Is your DSL service off?" And - the one I like best - "For faster action, report your outage online"
I tried reaching them online at work, but none of the listed email contacts actually work.

So this afternoon I am picking up a Time Warner cable modem and switching to cable online access. Wish me luck!

It reminded me of another inane phone message I once received. I had dropped my Visa card in the Staples parking lot. Someone found it and turned it into the store manager - who reported it to Visa. Visa called me and left a message that included this phrase: "To report or replace a lost card, please call the number on the back of your card."

It's a wonder that any of the phone receivers in my house are still un-smashed!
