This brings the total of what I have spent to $172 - a lot more than the original $117 outlay. To be fair, I should mention that I also received the leather case for free.

In the back of my mind, I am comparing my experience to what I would have had with a jetBook, an Aluratek Libre or an Astak Pocket Pro.

Personally, I feel I am getting a good return on investment with my JBL.
I know I've spent much more on enthusiasms that provided much less value or impact
on my day to day routine. And it's not like I don't have plenty of other ways to read
eBooks.

As to "experience I would have had"? Life is too short. Nor can you really know how
it well go with any purchase, not every Toyota has problems, but some did. Luck, chance, fate, whatever... something beyond our control, is in charge of lemon distribution.

Luck;
Ken

4giB SDHC problems...

Ken

I got my jetBook{non-lite} for Christmas '09 (NewEgg) and am still in love with it. ---> I had read about the SD capacities; the manual packaged with the jB said 2giB, the website mentioned something about 4giB, but also said 2giB max. So... I went on down to the electronics store, and talked to someone there. He sold me a 4giB SDHC.

The data transfer rate was much faster than a regular 2giB SD, and everything seemed fine. Until I tried to put more than 2giB on the card.

I have just under a thousand books on my card, about 35 min of music, and 100 low-res pics. At the 2giB mark, the card froze up. I can no longer access the card via computer to delete, rename, move or add files (either through the jB's USB, or a separate card reader). I've been using Calibre to do all my converting and transferring. Primarily epub, rtf, text formats.

Wondering if you, or anyone else, has encountered any of the same problems...

thanks,
-rob.

I haven't had any problems with any of my (numerous >10) SD cards, but depending on the brand and the store where you purchased it, it is quite likely that you could get a replacement SD card. Some brands have LIFETIME warranties. Hope you kept your receipt!

I know it isn't much. But there are a few 5% off coupon codes that still appear to work at:

I had a 16 gig SDHC card that out of no where got a whole bunch of empty folders that I was unable to delete, modify, etc.

I used Panasonic's SD formatter utility to clean it up so I could use it again.
Quick, simple, easy.

I ran into this and had to reformat the SD card as FAT32 and all has been fine since.

When transfer speed becomes an issue, I would definitely recommend an SD card reader to any Aluratek Libre owners; 20 times faster.

My informal test copy of 1132 files, totaling 335 megs

Direct connect usb 1332 seconds = 251,381 bits per second
SD Card Reader 60 seconds = 5,580,675 bits per second

I believe the Libre has the same issue as the Jetbook.

Yes they have a USB port, but its the old slow USB 1.1 standard.

Good card reader, USB SD card adapter are USB 2.0 and for larger volumes they are easily 10x faster.

I have found battery cases for 8 X AA size and 12 X AAA at the local DollarRama store. located usually next to the battery display of all places.

These items have started to show up in the last couple of years.
