I might try that at some point. However I was thinking someplace more familiar and mundane to start. Like IHOP, Denny's, or Carl's Jr. Maybe Canter's Deli. Places I haven't had the opportunity to enjoy since being dragged to this hole in Northern Nevada.

Well I have some time to decide.

Well, it was just a comment on the manual lawnmower followed by what I'm doing, but since you bring it up... that's actually a pretty good idea. At least if they are mulch they won't be able to replicate!

Today, I bought a new 27" iMac. The Loved One is inheriting the 24", having had to return the Macbook to his ex-employer. Which is the point...that, ructions that have been rumbling for some months, causing and intensifying enormous stress, have reached conclusion and closure. This is good, if merely personal, news. Things have changed. Some "culture shock"-like symptoms will be experienced, but a new, regularly-scheduled program will be commenced shortly.

Also, I got rid of the last piece of lawn a year or so ago. Best gardening I ever did.

Cheers,
Marc

Good luck to the Loved One in whatever he does next, Marc.

I too have just bought a new computer: a Lenovo Thinkpad. It is quite possibly the ugliest computer I've ever owned, but is much more powerful than my current ageing laptop.

I spent all day yesterday putting book #2 into Smashwords format. Then I tried to market it. There was one site that insisted I use HTML code; that was fun...

The relief from stress sounds fantastic for both of you. Hopefully some of that wasted energy can go into dealing with the '"culture shock"-like symptoms' during the transition period to whatever choices the two of you have made in how to go forward with your lives. Sounds like good news to me too.

I wish we had a small bit of lawn. The dog won't "go" on anything but grass.

Good luck with your new Thinkpad. I love the Thinkpad brand when it comes to consistency, they all look the same with their sleek black business look, and it's quite hard to find sturdier laptop builds. So far my Thinkpad laptops have not let me down.

Not large at all - or I would have surrendered and opted for an electric or battery-powered model.
If you keep them well oiled (WD-40 is your friend) and the blades sharp, they are not hard to push over plain grass. The challenging areas contain tough-leaved weeds or crab grass - but just get a running start before you hit them.

I have also replaced barren areas of lawn with "decorative" pine bark chips and edging - the soil is so poor I gave up trying to get new grass to grow.
[We also have commando squirrels that promptly dig up EVERYTHING that is planted. Areas of cultivated dirt seem to trigger unstoppable digging responses in the little b*****ds.]
