That they are not unique does not - of course - in any way, shape or form exclude Apple from one single piece of the criticism levelled at them. Moreover, most of the e-reader competition are based on Linux. |

I agree it's an e-reader forum, and I wish the mods would move ALL iPad threads to the Apple Devices forum so they can stay free from the haters.
I see NO reason for anything to be posted in News or General Discussions when it pertains to a device that has it's own forum area. For the "exclusivity" bit: 1. I know others bash all the DRM schemes, I was just talking to joblack who has repeatedly just attacked Apple for it like they're the only one's that do it. Again, I'm no Apple fanboy as the Nano I recently bought is the only of their products I've every owned. I've always found their stuff lacking features and/or too pricey until the 5th gen Nano (finally added FM tuner) and maybe the iPad (still on the fence). 2. And I never said it excused Apple for doing it. I'd prefer it was more open and DRM free, just like I prefer the same of my Kindle, and licensed PC software etc. I'm just not so up in arms about it as most as I really only care if a device suits my current needs, and don't care much about all the legal issues, having access to cheap books and programs years down the road etc. But I get that other's do care a lot about that and that's fine and I have no problem with people bashing DRM schemes etc. Just do it for all schemes and don't troll one company when there are many companies doing the same crap. You're the one casually suggesting people strip DRM, I suggest they avoid it entirely!

At first I referred not to all Apple user (I'm sure some have bought the hardware by accident). Secondly I was referring to a subset of Apple user ('freaks'). The combination from the first and second isn't correct and you haven't brought any indication it's different. Before you write some unfounded sentences you should have some facts ... |

Picking out small sentence parts from a more complex forum entry is IMHO a little bit unprofessional. |

You said I was referring to all Apple users. If you would have read the statement correctly it was referred to a subset ('freaks'). So you might say you haven't told the truth.

You are correct... I was responding to a single message you posted. However, as much as you like to deny it... that specific message was not a "legitimate critique" it was a blank statement that Apple products are over priced and have a limited lifetime. The fact that you posted other sentences in other posts is a moot point. You still made the statement I quoted and that was the statement I was commenting on. You can't have it both ways... either you are making legitimate critiques that "apple freaks" see as a conspiracy or you are posting hyperbole and FUD such as "overpriced" and limited lifetime. In addition, in the first place you tell me that I read your post wrong. Then you change your mind and decide that it was only one post and did not contain your legitimate critiques which were contained in other parts of the thread. Secondly, you complain that responding to only one of your posts is "unprofessional". Well, I don't attend this forum professionally... I do it for fun in my spare time. For the record I did not "pick out small sentence parts". If you go back you will see that I quoted full sentences from your message. You are welcome to post all you want about the device and why you would not choose it. But, if someone else doesn't agree with your evaluation of those issues doesn't make them and "Apple freak" nor does it make there opinion any less valuable. I bid you good day sir. BOb |

Bottom line for me is this: The iPad has provided the best way to view electronic comics, by a good margin.
I didn't like reading them on my laptop, but with the iPad I can sit on the couch and easily read it and carry it around - more portable, good battery life, great interface and a great user experience. Apple haters can complain all they want, bottom line for me is this device works brilliantly for this (and other) functions. |

I know a fair number of comic readers who are entirely happy with their PSP's and have no intention of getting an iPad, fugazied...

Despite being a non-ipad'r, I think the app is pretty cool. In fact, viewing videos of it and of the ibook app had me almost thinking of ignoring my other (non-discussion-related) objections...but not quite.
Does the app let you read all cbr/cbz comics? Or only those bought from Marvel via the App? |
