I don't get it. Why does everyone on this thread think that Amazon has something to do with the iPad or in any way can control what apps are allowed on it? Perhaps you were all just mistyping and meant to say Apple? Or is there a joke here I'm not getting?

Amazon owns Stanza.

Same here.

Also anyone here with not great eyesight, give us some experiences.

I though that I'd prefer the portrait mode in iBook, but I've been using landscape (2-up) most of the time. I do like iBook much more than the Kindle app, and I'm trying to read on the iPad exclusively for a few days to see how I manage compared to the Kindle device.
Thanks. Let us know how you feel after those few days.

You are probably right about the narrow focusing area of the iPhone - plus its screen is not as good as the IPS screen of the iPad.

I am holding out for larger Androids with Flash, but am getting excited about tablets over eInks.

As far as I can tell, iBooks does not add hyphenation to words for better justification.

The iPad's screen uses the same technology as the iPhone. You will not find the experience to be much different, except in size. EDIT: I can't find a source for this. I believe it's true, but have no citation, so take it as you will. :-P

Sorry. This is not true. The iPad uses an IPS LCD screen, the iPhone does not, nor does the iPod Touch.

In any case, they look identical. The brightness spectrum and viewing angle is not noticeably different. Though with the iPhone, viewing angle is largely irrelevant.

Sorry, I actually liked reading on the iPhone. But you might be interested that I'm going back to the iPhone for my book reading because of the WEIGHT of the iPad.

Seriously, inside -- if you adjust the brightness and font size -- the iPad is a dream to read on. And I dislike very much reading on a computer. Then again, I never tried dimming my computer's monitor.

It's very easy to turn page. A simple tap anywhere on the edge of the screen turns the page. I can even turn the page with a minor little swipe from the other side of the screen if I happen to be reading with my "other thumb".

Here's an article that actually compares the iPad screen, the iPhone 3GS screen and a Dell Mini 10. The iPad did very well.

It's not the same screen technology. The iPad uses an "IPS" screen, like those gorgeous Mac displays.

The key to comfort, though -- is turning the brightness down to match the room lighting and increase font size. Obviously, you can use a much larger font on the iPad. It didn't take long for me to prefer the iPad's large size over my iPhone.

I've gone back to the iPhone for book reading, though, because I like the small light size.
