I quote from one of the recipients of a (paper) review copy of Kai Lung Raises His Voice:

Quote:
This stunning gem only today landed in this unworthy person's
deficient and ill-formed hands. Your kindness is as the summer
sun on the forward parts of an automobile painted in an obsidian
shade: it warms almost to the point of conflagration.

As one who has in the past has made clumsy attempts at the
daunting and Byzantine art of typesetting, my appreciation
extends especially to the classically refined book design which
your work exhibits.

If anything, the lapidary prose in these tales is even more
finely overwrought than the other works I have seen by this
author. Consequently, it will be one of my most treasured
possessions. My gratitude is as the spring flood in the gorge of
the three great rivers.

May good fortune attend you and your revered Line

— John Shipman
And note also that the DRM-free ePub version currently available at Lulu.com retains much of the elegant typesetting of the paper version, and has now been updated to have iTunes-friendly cover metadata.

My Grandmother lives in a 'home', and whenever I go visit, she says to the 'ladies', "This is my Grandaughter" and they all get big eyes and go "Ohhhhh, that author."
And for one shining moment in my life, I feel like a star!

The 'ladies' love Victory Cove. My Grandmother is so mad because they won't buy their own copy...they keep passing hers around.

If you're talking ebook, then that's a good case for DRM.

If you're talking paper, then perhaps your Grandmother needs a safe.

All I can say is another five star review has popped up on Amazon.

Might be by somebody's grandma, but not mine.

Just a mature person with very good taste in literature.

Oh - have I mentioned my other recent book? It's a biography of Alfredo Catalani, a 19th Century Italian Composer, who suffered from tuberculosis (& very bad luck) all his life, and died at 39. Slightly older than Puccinni (& from the same town), and admired by Toscannini, the book is mainly a translation of an Italian biography, along with translations of a couple of other anecdotal accounts of his life.

It's really quite interesting, although mainly, I grant, if you're an opera buff.

Alfredo Catalani: Composer of Lucca
is available in Kindle/Mobipocket at a very reasonable $2.99
It's also available in ePub/iPad from lulu.com, also at $2.99

(For those in the UK, it's £1.90 at lulu.com, and 20% off this weekend using code EASTER mean's it's just £1.52!)

Oh - it's also available in Paperback ($9 /£7) and Hardback ($24 /£16)

You can read a little more about it, inlcuding the Table of Contents and the first chapter at my web site.

Hi there,

I am the author of the peacekeeper series.

A series of natural disasters of biblical proportions occurred on a global scale. Around the world, tens of millions died as a result. When the survivors looked around, they saw a world drastically changed. Most men and women struggled to cope with the devastation. Many turned to marauding as a means of survival. A few of the survivors banded together to protect the weak. They became Peacekeepers.

The first novel in this series was originally released as an audio book by Books In Motion. They are now working with book two, Some Gave All. That audio version should release about midyear in 2010. Amazon lists The Birth of the Peacekeepers as number 1 in the category of electromagnetic theory. Book 6 is listed as number two.

Here are the product links:

The Ultimate in Women's Self-Defense.

Adventures in Reading is a compilation of short stories and the novella, The North Room. (paranormal fiction.) It also contains Coping with Breast Cancer, which is an essay about our experience with the disease in 1995. I took on the task of writing that difficult piece in the hopes that it would aid other couples struggling to cope with the disease.

The Ultimate in Women’s Self-Defense.

Book blurb:

Even if you never do a single exercise in this book, the information contained within its pages could save your life.

The author is a master in the arts of Wing Chun Kung Fu and Chinese Ninja. He studied martial arts from 1980 to the early 1990s under the private instruction of Grandmaster Tony Ragasa Fong.

In the mid 1980s, the author decided to teach a women’s rape prevention seminar. As he delved into research to utilize during the course of that seminar, the author discovered the true scope of the problem women faced. He decided it was time for him to take a more active role in helping women avoid becoming a victim. But when one of his students related to him the details of her own abduction and rape, it took on a more personal aspect for him.

The author, already committed to helping women, dedicated a significant portion of his life toward that goal.

During an intensive private training course with his Grandmaster, the author learned the secret techniques that the masters teach their own families. With the blessings and assistance of his master, the author developed a comprehensive training course for his students.

This book reveals the secrets that Grandmaster Tony Ragasa taught Master Sides. These are the secrets that martial arts masters have taught their own families. The author believes that it is time to share these secrets. To that end, he undertook the challenge to write a book, which would be

The Ultimate in Women’s Self-Defense.

NEWS BREAK: Local MobileRead author decides to promote her book after waking up with a shred of disconnected epidermis attached to her left thumb! [Hangnail].

Do you often ask yourself these questions:

Am I a creative social outcast? Did I just promote my book yesterday? Did Uncle Barney like my book, and do I feel this is a good reason that the world will also like my book?

WELL, HAVE NO FEAR, FRIEND! Read the startling information below:

This thread is a place for you to shamelessly- AND WITHOUT ANY GUILT WHATSOEVER! - admit that your book is on sale for the 20th time this month, even though it's only the 4th day of the month. Are you a writer who forgets things? Simply write a post about your book, BUT forget to add some trivial detail. Then, post again, adding the trivial detail that you "forgot." Shameless and obvious? You better believe it! MobileRead Members are not dummies; they like a good laugh and a good reminder about your book.

REMEMBER: HAVE FUN!

Well now this is embarrassing. I see that contributors to this thread are easily shocked by shameless self-promotion so I hardly dare mention that I have an ebook called Alison Wonderland available at Amazon, Mobipocket and on the Tyger Books website in various formats.

It's a quirky comedy that was first published in a print edition by Gollancz in the UK about ten years ago and was reviewed very favourably in the national press at the time. You can read excerpts from those reviews via any of the links above.

As it has only just been published as an ebook, it is now available for a limited time for $1.99 - but the price will soon rise. I don't want people thinking I'm cheap as well as shameless.

Thanks for checking it out.

What's it about?

Just the other day someone said, it seems for the umpteenth time, "Really, you've written a book. So what's it about?"

After countless revisions of long blurbs, shorter versions, log lines and quick two paragraph descriptions, drawn out conversations trying to explain the plot, not to mention having written the book, endless edits and rewrites -- I was just plain tired.

"Forgetting how to reincarnate," I replied.

Then I realized -- the most concise description I could ever imagine for the story.

Though it's plenty more, like longing for childhood you can never have only to dread once it happens, and all you wish for is to hurry up and grow up, at which point you only want to be a child again. How we don't want what we have and want all we can't have. And man is his own worst enemy. And the power of sexual attraction, and attention, and...

Well, better to read the book and know what it's about, which far exceeds anything possible in a short promotional message.

Awakening begins the Dead Forever series, followed by Apotheosis and Resonance.

My mystery, Rottweiler Rescue, is available on Amazon and Smashwords. I'd really love to hear from someone how the formatting of the Smashwords version looks since they insist on having a Word document they can put through their "Meat Grinder." The only reason I did Smashwords was to have the book available for ereaders other than the Kindle and before I do another book, it would be nice to know if the EPub or another non-Kindle version came out decently formatted. I formatted the Kindle version myself using MobiCreator and am rather proud of how that came out.

The book is the story of Dianne Brennan, a volunteer foster home for Rottweiler Rescue. Dianne never expected the job to be easy, but she didn't expect it to include murder! Yet murder is what Dianne faces when she takes a dog to meet an adopter, finds him dead, and sees the killer leaving the scene. Worse, although Dianne cannot identify the killer, he begins stalking her with deadly intent. The sheriff's investigators in Douglas County, Colorado, are convinced the killer is a member of the victim's family. Dianne is sure he will be found where the victim worked - in the world of dog shows and dog people. Can she keep herself and her dogs safe long enough to prove she is right? Can Dianne and her Rottweilers collar the killer?

Good point, Dr. Sir! Now if we could all be a fly on the wall when Grandma attempted to describe the concept of the e-book to the ladies. The eyes grew even bigger. Fortunately there was a flurry of activity with the ladies then calling their daughters, who totally understood the concept and proceeded to buy their own digital copy!!! yeay!!!

...and yes, Plumboz, it could have very well been my Grandmother. She's very savvy for 92
