Uh oh. I've got another problem.

After reading on the JBL for nearly an hour this afternoon without any problems, I picked it up tonight. It came on promptly, but would not leave the list of folders that it was on when I shut it off this afternoon.

So I reset it, and now it won't come on at all.

I'm hoping that it is just a case of the batteries needing to be replaced. But the graphic showed that I was only one bar down, although I had replaced the batteries last on Monday the 8th.

So I will recharge the other set of batteries overnight, and try it again in the morning.

If it still doesn't work, I am going to ask if they will exchange a regular jetBook for it. I can't keep spending nine dollars a month to ship it back for replacement.

All these horror stories make me glad I bought a Libre instead of a Jetbook Lite. I've had no problems with my Libre.

I wonder how many Jetbook Lites have been sold vs. Libres? If Ectaco has sold far more e-readers than Aluratek has, maybe that would account for the preponderance of complaints about the JBLs.

Good news. I let the JBL sit without batteries for an hour. I then reinserted the batteries, and it worked like nothing had happened.

I'd already started charging the other set of batteries, so I'll leave them going overnight. I had been leaving the spare set uncharged until I needed them, but the last time the device went from three bars to one bar in just a couple of hours, so I decided that I would charge the batteries a little earlier this time.

So it's all good, for now anyway.

I'm glad that it came back on but I do have one question. By your post, I am assuming that at first nothing would come on at all? No blink of power, no jetbook logo...nothing. Almost like it was not getting any power? They really need to get this issue fixed and do it soon. This is happening waaay too often for me to feel comfortable about it. I reeeally want to get a good set of rechargeables, but I am waiting to spend the money until I see if they get this battery issue worked out first.

Yes, that's right.

The batteries had been in for ten days, so maybe it was a battery issue. I have no idea.

It may have been related to the difficulty I had loading the large Wizard of Oz Omnibus which I mentioned in another thread. Perhaps there was a memory problem that was cleared out by letting the unit sit without batteries installed for an hour.

This problem does not seem to be getting resolved, and if they don't get it fixed soon, the word will get out and as far as I am concerned, their product will be worthless. Has this only happened when rechargeables were used? That seems to be an issue, and not being able to use rechargeables could be another big negative of the value of this reader.
Well I bought it from Newegg, Ectaco is honoring their 1 year warrenty but yes i want this fixed once and for all. Its happened to me when using rechargables but I cant say its the ONLY time it has happened to everyone. I am very annoyed though since I already paid to ship it back 1 time for this problem. They asked for a printout of my newegg receipt so they BETTER refund if they cant fix.

Highroller, I can't blame you for being irritated. I think when an item fails that the company should pay postage to send it back. They do such a high volume of shipping that it would be a drop in the bucket for them. You've paid shipping once, to receive the item, and it is not your fault it is defective. Now if you had just decided you didn't want it, that is a different story. I can understand why they won't pay to ship that back. But defective item....boo to the company for not paying to have it sent back to them.

Well I got free shipping form newegg but I had to pay to send it back to Ectaco the FIRST time it had this problem. This is the SECOND time. If I have to send it back again at my expense it will be to get a refund. They are SAYING the upcoming new firmware will fix the problem but they haven't told me yet just HOW I get the new firmware on the device. With it hanging on logo screen it never gets far enough to reload current firmware and windows doesn't see it as a valid usb device. Yet in reply to that last email I sent they assured me I wouldn't have to send it to them again...

My jetbook lite purchase has turned into a nightmare. Their product looks and works great until it suddenly quits working. Then after replacement it stopped working again. They won't give a refund for defective device. I can send it back again at my expense to get ANOTHER replacement though I have absolutely no way of knowing if it will ALSO fail in a couple more weeks.

Newegg was leaning toward allowing me to return it for a refund as a exception to the 30 day coverage rule but couldn't because I didn't have the original unit. Ie I had already sent it back 1 time to ectaco.

So at this point my only source of satisfaction is to warn as many people as possible that the device has a defect and lord only knows when Ectaco will actually fix it so it doesn't reoccur.

I have lost all confidence in Ectaco. So buyer beware.

I've had no problems with my Jetbook Lite! It is very good and solid unit and I like it more than my original jetBook. I recommended JBL to many friends and I think that more than 20 people already purchased this unit after my recommendation and as I know all of them like it too. I use Sony 2500 mAh AA Rechargeable Nimh Batteries and it works perfect 20-22 hours with it.

Well don't get me wrong Kris777, I definately don't want your jbl to do what mine is doing. I just want mine fixed once and for all and ectaco seems unable to do that. Right now all mine is good for is a paperweight (

I agree with LE, what are you doing to it?

Did you change the battery's after it suddenly quits working?
Because I've had my JBL do that to me a time or 2. Battery gauge on full, yet plink and the readers off and won't restart. Put in freshly charged battery's and up it goes.

How much reading and educating yourself have you done about Jetbooks?
