I was just wishing Lepo Hauʻoli a Happy Birthday (I took liberties and translated his name, since I sung to him in Hawaiian....), and I felt a guilt thatʻs been haunting me for four months now rear its ugly head again.

So this is the thread where Iʻm going to come clean. No, not come clean your house or anything, and not that other thing you were thinking (naughty!). Iʻm going to confess my flagrant manipulation and feel better about it.

When I first signed up for mobileread, I kept my birthday out of it. I guarded that like it was the key to my "real" identity and everyone would know who I was instantly by my birthday (because using my real first name would never do that). But as my birthday approached, and I watched MR announce birthdays on the forum page, I realized I wanted recognition too! I wanted it say say Todayʻs birthdays: GRACEKRISPY! I wanted to see my name in lights!! I wanted to be famous, even if only for a day!

So two days before my birthday, I put my birthday in. Just in time, as it turns out, as MR is confused about days (kind of like that whole "Friday question of the week" coming in on a Wednesday every time) and wished me a happy birthday early.

I feel better now. Such blatant manipulation, all for a little online recognition. I shame.

So, now, fess up, what do you need to come clean about?

Btw, I played around with the thread title, but each variation sounded dirtier than the last, so I simplified it.

I'm sure other members have done similar with their birthdays. As a matter of fact, earlier last year, and VERY EARLY in the morning, I was checking the spot where the member birthdays are listed and saw no one I knew listed. Then poof . . . all of a sudden this member's name appears in the birthday list that wasn't there half an hour earlier

(I KNOW it wasn't). I guess (s)he was like you and decided (s)he wanted his/her special day acknowledged.

So I started a Happy Birthday thread for him/her.

I don't always notice the birthdays, or the birthday threads, so I apologize to those I might have missed acknowledging

(and wish you all a belated or early birthday right now.)

I know that's a pitiful attempt to make ammends, but . . .
