When I said that I paid the hardback price, I meant the price, not that I bought the hardback - I bought the ebook at that price. My point was simply that pricing the ebook at the paper price may work for them. I didn't want to buy in paper.

Note that this isn't the solution that I actually want - what I'd prefer is for ebooks to be below the paper price, especially at the current quality.

The thing that we're all kind of dancing around here is that the publishers are looking at what has happened to the music industry and panicking. My understanding is that sales of CDs are way down these days, since so many people download their music directly to their MP3 players.

The music industry got caught by surprise. The book publishers are trying to preserve their markets without considering the fact that ultimately their business is going to go digital, too, and they'd best be trying to find ways to manage it without honking off too many potential customers.

But the software industry seems to have solved this problem. In order to have English language software, I've bought lots of software online, with the appropriate VAT added to the pre-tax price by some company that does this sort of thing. Why that can't be applied to the publishing industry, I'll never know.
Cheers,
Bev

I have a number of overpriced (to my mind) ebooks on my Wishlist at Fictionwise. I just hope that the publishers simply lower the price and not issue a new ebook edition reflecting the lower price and still have the original ebook edition listed at the original price.

Logically, it would seem that simply lowering the price is the easiest and best way to fo this but I wouldn't be surprised if the publishers change prices by issuing another ebook version of the same content.

I got a reply from Lisa Lutz. She says that S&S is changing their delay policy based on complaints from customers. Indeed, The Spellsmans Strike Back is now available on the Kindle. It was nice to hear from the author and very cool to hear that she has her "ear the ground" on what's happening in the ebook business.

That's really interesting. I bought Lutz's Spellman book today at $9.99 and was very happy to see it at that price. It's really good btw.

I'm kind of the opinion that once all this agency model crap shakes out these publishers are going to find themselves in price competition with one another.

Random House isn't playing at all and now Simon and Schuster is announcing that they'll be pricing most of their bestsellers at .... $9.99.

hmmmmmm

That is good news--nice to know that readers and authors can make a difference...sometimes!

Try this link. Maybe you're regionally restricted?

I am not geographically restricted and my statement still stands. I have looked and the title is not there:

You provided a link to a different title.

Did the poster provide the wrong title??

I think she just has the title wrong in her original post--it's supposed to be "The Spellman's strike Again." Unless I'm mistaken the 'again' title is the latest.
