Sry.. I fear my english is worse than I thought.
I meant that as a non-rethorical question. I'd really like to have an answer^^

What Don means is that we all think that the way that we do things is the only "right" way to do those things, and are amazed that other people would do them in a different way.

Hm... well I don't think that "my way" is the "only way".
I'm still waiting for an answer

It is I who should apologize...

Hello again:

I would like to apologize for coming on perhaps too strong, although I attempted to mix that with humor.

I teach English, and when I talk to two women I know from Peru and living in Peru, they are always apologizing for not knowing very much English. Your English is fine. If anything, I SHOULD BE THE ONE LEARNING MORE ABOUT YOUR LANGUAGE.

To answer you questin, I'll amplify on what I wrote in my original response: I like having a huge choice of reading on my Reader, as do some other individuals on this board. You like to have only a few titles. I think it depends on how one views reading. You see, I'm one of those people who DO like to read 2 or 3 chapters of a book, and then if I want to I can SWITCH books! --- But my choices are huge, because of the way I read.

Where you say you're not getting it at all ---- well, that was my attempt at humor.

The beauty of a device like a Reader is that we can take 1 book or hundreds of books with us.

I hope this helps

Don

I use a structured naming scheme for mine and keep several hundred on the Reader at any given time with a constant feed of new ones going onto it and old one's coming. A lot of them are reference books, (history texts) of which I might read only parts to compare information of follow up a reference from another book.

For instance:
NMHWWII- (title)

N NonFiction
MH Military History
WWII World War 2

FSFFNT-(title)
Fiction - Science Fiction - Fantasy

FMY-(title)
Fiction- Mystery

The first char is fiction/nonfiction

The second is a 2 char general category within the broader fiction/nonfiction

That's followed by up to 3 chars to further narrow the category followed by a - and the title.

So when i drop a new book in I don't have to search or it much. Just by glancing at the first 6 chars of the titles I can rapidly flip to where that book has to fall and find it.

That's okay...

A lot of the English speakers here have trouble understanding Dr. Drib.

Anyway, I carry around my entire free book collection on a SD card mainly because I can, but also because I have already given way a copy to another Sony Reader owner.

I also have started carrying my Book Designer ebook source files on a CD-R. I have already given away two copies so far to people who don't have a Sony Reader but have another ebook reader.

What I need to do is sort out my messy SonyReader book directory. I need to gather my sources together and my finished product and put them in a nice tree structure to make it easier to keep track.

On my computer I actually have a folder with nothing but completed LRF files, all arranged in the same way that I post my uploads [last name, first name, title of book]. That folder is getting huge, so I should probably make two separate CD copies [redundancy], and then delete the contents of that folder from my computer.

I also have 3 other huge folders that I need to address:

1) A folder with all books that are on the two Sony Readers

2) A folder with all books that are NOT on the two Sony Readers.

3) A folder of downloaded books that I have yet to organize in the way that I like to have books organized: last name, first name, title. When those are completed, they'll be moved over to folder 1 or 2.

I have a hierarchical tree of folders. At the top level, one folder per author, named "surname, firstname". Within that, one folder per book, with the name as the book title, and within that, all the files associated with the book - generally the original file (HTML, RTF, or whatever), the converted LRF file, and a copy of the complete "LastFile" folder from the BD work.

sony ereader uses linux os, so there's already a full file system on internal memory and sd card, it should be REAL EASY for sony to use the current interface to display/navigate directory structure, like first show the top level folders, button-> goes down 1 level, until you hit a book, then button-> read

i think this will vastly improve reader's usability

this could be a good hack that's very useful...

unfortunately no source code from sony otherwise i will spend time modifying it

Wow all this messing around with folders. I just use libprs500's database to keep track of all my books and their many formats.

As I've said before, Kovid, I use an Access database to actually catalog my books. What I've described above is simply the way that I store them.

i found putting books in folder in sd card won't work, the ereader only finds books at the root level. not sure if i miss anything here

another thing, open big book the first time takes very very looooong time, i put a 6mb book on sd card, the first time to read it, took 20 mins. i tried different methods, copy book to sd via card reader (which is very fast), then open book, or use connect software to transfer (slow), then open book, same thing, open book first time takes forever, i even try to open it from connect software thinking maybe use computer power to do it, but seems no help, the first time open book ereader always does the slow "formating". don't know if you guys got any idea
