Yes, you can here, assuming that is for a medical reason (eg. you have a doctor's appointment or some such).
Sick leave accumulates here. When I left my last job I had more sick leave than I had long service leave accumulated (and with 19 years service, that was a fair whack). The difference is, when I left, my annual and long service leave accumulations got paid out. My sick leave didn't. Some see this as an "incentive" to use their sick leave. Thus, the "sickie" (it can just mean a "sick day", but it's often used with a nudge and a wink to mean a sick day taken when not sick). Some days I worked through migraines. Sometimes I'd have the next day off, telling the boss "You owe me!", and, with a nudge and a wink, he was fine with it. Hell, with the days and hours I'd work, I could tell him on particularly bad days that, "I need a day off, or permission to have someone eradicated, paid for with company funds". I got the day off, no problem. ![]() The Loved One had a massive heart attack early on (age: 34). He had to have months off work. I was always conscious of that (we'd worked together for a few years by then), and I wanted sick leave in reserve should something bad befall me. I lost that accumulation when I was given a DCM, but I always felt good having it there when I was employed. Cheers, Marc |

Sick leave accumulates? - ours was only an annual allowance.
'normal holidays' - could be carried forward, but there were limits, usually max of 10 days. |

My wife is a medical lab technician; a social service employee. They are allowed two weeks sickness leave a year. If those days are not taken they are paid at the end of that year. It's a finite period not to be reported from year to year.
She uses a week of it in the dead of winter to "recharge her batteries". And that is additional to the 4 weeks holidays her 32 years of service entitle her to. |

Subsequent life-review occurred. Our relationship (and our acknowledgement to ourselves, each other, and eventually anyone else, of our sexuality) was the result. It's all a rich tapestry. ![]() Cheers, Marc Last edited by montsnmags; 03-30-2010 at 08:53 AM. |

I should have said "a result" rather than "the result". He lost a very small adult in weight, stopped smoking, stopped binge-drinking, and reprioritised aspects of his work life to reduce stress levels (though you wouldn't know that last bit lately...but that's a whole other story). Now he just has me to contend with.

Here, depending on the ******* place you work for, it takes between 3 to 6 months before you get any coverage. And you get fired just before you get there and then they call you back a few months later to rehire you and then fire you back just before coverage takes effect. I'm getting sick of it and there's no coverage fer that! |

They are playing a Contract to Hire game in the technology industries -- basically just a ploy to get workers without having to provide benefits, etc. the way I see it. |
