I believe that American biscuits are rather like the English scones.
One thing to remember is to preheat the oven. They need to go into a hot oven at once, as soon as the dough is mixed. This is because the raising agent is activated as soon as the mixture is moist. And they won't rise properly if the oven is cool.

So I always turn the oven on, do something else for ten minutes, then grease the baking tray, then measure the ingredients. That way everything seems to work fairly well.

Ok, well then the guy from Costco isn't from Alaska either :P
Unfortunately, I'm taking the mid-terms. 2 more years to go on this Bachelor's degree program. We have a Houdini for a cat too, so I feel your pain. She can claw through duct tape though - we had to replace all our screening with the old fashioned metal kind, instead of the light nylon stuff.

1 1/4 cups heavy cream.
This looks like the oddest biscuit (unsweetened scone?) recipe on record, but it's the only one I've ever used that actually has a texture I like (I don't like the texture of drop biscuits). This is a roll out and cut in circles type recipe; as opposed to drop spoonfulls on a sheet.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, and Thank you! .

My scone recipe is similar, but uses butter rather than cream. I think that I'll give yours a try though, Shel. It looks interesting.

What am I doing?

I just planted three rows of corn in the lower 40.

Not really; I've just always wanted to say that. But I did plant three 8' rows of the stuff in my backyard this afternoon.

Yes, I have to keep replacing the duct tape.....
My son who's in Alaska now thought it was quite funny at the time -- he's not laughing any more.

Missed the Grandmother posting! Congrats....I think....

wow, multifocal ? really ? i didn't realise that was possible. sounds tricky. do you have to orient your eyes according to the distance of what you want to look at ? like, if something is very close but above you, do you have to tip your head back to look through the bottom portion of the lens ? (i'm not making fun of you, i'm sincerely curious about how they work)

I was also curious about how they work. The optician told me that the lens is separated into different areas with different corrections (sometimes it's concentric circles, sometimes it's a different distribution). So the eye receives a sort of patchwork, some areas of the image are in focus, some aren't, and my poor brain is supposed to make sense of this Apparently this works for about 60-70% of people. But since different lens brands have different distribution patterns, they may work differently for different people.

The ones I tried today are great for long and mid range vision but not so god for short range, I had some trouble reading. The previous ones were great for reading but I couldn't see my computer screen very well when working
