Not an ebook but picked up an older used copy of Only One Man Died .. The Medical aspects of the Lewis and Clark Expedition by E.G. Chuinard, M.D.
Was going to provide a link, but seems to be out of print. An interesting read on the medical care of the Corps of Discovery on their two year journey across the United States and back. |

Overall, very good. [Hey - I just noticed. That was my 50th book this year.] Now for a classic: Kai Lung's Golden Hours, beautifully converted from the Project Gutenberg text by Patricia. Last edited by pdurrant; 03-28-2010 at 04:47 AM. |

Thanks for the tip, PDurrant. I've downloaded Patricia's version to Calibre to slip into my reader for next week's hospital stay. Very best. Neli

I am re-reading a book I read as a child, "A wind in the Door". I've been on a childhood kick recently! I am also still reading "A Song for Arbonne" |

One chapter and 25 pages from finishing E. M. Forster - A Life the biography by P. N. Furbank. 600+ relatively dense pages (yes, it's a p-book) - so it has taken me some time, but it's been quite enjoyable too. It's a very good and well-written biography.

The first book I have a clear memory of reading on my own was when I was pre or early teen - Edgar Rice Burroughs - Pellucidar!
It still stands up today. ![]() |

Oh what Am I reading? I'm continuing to work my way through Carl Sagan's "The Demon Haunted World" and "The Varieties of Scientific Experience interspersed with some re-reads of Loren Eiseley's "The Immense Journey" and am reading selections from "The Best American Essays of the Century" edited by Joyce Carol Oates - Specifically right now reading Joan Didon's - The White Album.

Finally finished "The Enemy" by Lee Child. I didn't have much time for reading while being on deadline.
Also started reading and finished Don't Kiss Them Good-Bye by Allison DuBois. I like the Medium TV series so I wanted to see what the real person behind the story was about. Sadly it's a very short read and doesn't really go into much detail. There are some interesting occurrences mentioned, but it only touches the surface. |

Just finished Didon's essay The White Album and came away scratching my head at why it is so highly acclaimed. The only reason I can see is that she randomly intersected (due to reporting assignments etc.) with many of the media names/darlings of the late 60's in Los Angeles...Eldridge Cleaver, Linda Kasabian, The Doors... It was all somewhat disconnected scene-wise -- perhaps that is what "makes it" -- it is a perhaps a good reflection of the times...
I do plan on reading more of her work and have ordered one of her collections. |

I did start Star Trek: Seven Deadly Sins. I'm about half done. But since it's all short stories, it's easy to stop in the middle. Now I'm reading The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson. It's pretty interesting so far. I'm 30% into it.
