Particulary as there was much speculation that Apple had copied that interface from the existing "Delicious Library" app, and the similar "Classics" app:

http://news.cnet.com/8301-17938_105-10443476-1.html

Now whether all three of these are better than Amazon or B&N can come up with... well, we'll all have to wait and see, won't we?

I don't want to get into a fight. I'll just say that the iPad is better than my 500 from what I saw to date.

There's also the possibility that the iBook store will only sell a single book. Because...if you think about it...every other book essentially provides duplicate functionality of the first.

Amazon announced that they have just submitted a Kindle app to Apple for review as an iPad app. I saw the article on iPadincanada.ca

In the case of the Kindle/B&N/Stanza/etc apps, it's in Apple's interest to approve them because Apple is in the business of selling hardware and they want to get iPads into as many hands as possible.

True about Apple being a hardware vendor mostly, but it will depend on how much revenue Apple anticipates from ebook sales. If it's significant, they will wall-off the iPad.

I doubt it though, since I do not think they anticipate the ebook market to be significant. I believe they are more focused on video content, where they anticipate the largest growth, and apps (hence the lack of Flash).

Hello,
I'm new to this forum, but just wanted to add that i read somewhere on the Stanza website that they have no plans for an ipad app (at this time), which is a disappointment for me since it is my only and choice of reader on my iphone. I've ordered an ipad, so i'm hoping Stanza will reconsider.

This is a great site, glad i found it.
thanks,

Keep in mind Amazon now owns Stanza. I'm sure the want to move people off of Stanza to the Kindle app. Of course that might be a hard sell if they don't add epub and other support to it.

Maybe now iBooks is confirmed as having ePub support, they dontr think it will be cost effective or even worth spending the time and money to make an iPad stanza!?

I don't think that's it. Amazon wants to sell books first and foremost, and kindle's second. How does Stanza fit into either?

I'm not surprised that there will be no Stanza for the iPad (saddened, but not surprised). I'm surprised that Amazon has improved Stanza for the iPhone even after buying them. I think the best book reading ideas from the Stanza team will be incorporated into the Kindle for iPad app (and, let's hope the Kindle app for iPhone).

At that point -- the rest of the greatness of Stanza is actually counter productive for Amazon. The wonderful integration with other booksellers and book sources in Stanza is great for US, but is hardly something Amazon is interested in.

I wouldn't be very surprised to learn that Amazon bought Stanza just to keep it out of B&N's hands.

Perhaps someone else will come up with an app "like" stanza. I've not found another reader that will give me the "access" to books like stanza. Is there another app that will allow you to load a web address into it and download directly into the reader app? And the "library" that you have access too (if you know what your doing)?

thanks,
