As mentioned, shipping regs on batteries

Dear Dave:

Part of the problem is that terrorism worries everybody! A Sony battery did explode once in a post office. Regulations on batteries are as different as night and day between one country and the next country contiguous. It is a nightmare to ship batteries internationally.

Initially, the first two shipments of EZ Reader Basic from China came with the battery loose in the box. We asked why. China said they could NOT ship with the battery installed. They have since allowed the factory to ship with the battery in the device... but this is how wacko regulations get.

I hate it and you hate it. But... we often recommend for European residents, buy the spare battery from BeBook. It is the same battery and will work just fine.

But, shipping batteries with insurance and regulations is very expensive.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. It seems everyone has a different time to charge theirs.
Today it finally went to one bar as I finished my second book. It still wasn't cranky but it's now on its second 12hr charge.

I usually give it a full charge when it gets down to two bars. My big worry is that someday I may have to return it to Sony for a new battery. Anyone run into this problem?
I believe there are posts in the Sony forums on replacing the battery.

Here is a link to a battery:

These batteries don't need to be drained completely to hold a charge. You can charge it overnight when it gets to two bars. It's more important in the beginning to charge it completely so your battery meter knows what fully charged looks like.

Leaving the reader on doesn't drain the battery. If you do want to drain it quickly, you might try playing mp3s.
