This is a limitation of the RTF conversion, with some rtf files that use WMF images. Try using some other software to save the rtf as html and then convert it.

Names of splitted files in the ePub container

Hi all,

When converting large source files (RTF of HTML) to the ePub format, Calibre splits (if set) the source file in a number of separate files with names like:

ebookname_split_001.html
ebookname_split_002.html
etc.

Does anyone know if it is possible the avoid adding the "split addition" to the filename?

So files look like:

ebookname_001.html
ebookname_002.html
etc.

Thanks!

Just for interest why does this matter? One would normally see the file names inside an ePub file.

Because I edit my ePub Zip-files manually, it's practical to have a clear structure and "logical" files names.

I would therefore really appreciate it if Calibre should get parameters (or an add-in) that allows me to set my own preferable ePub container structure like:

mimetype
\METAINF
\OPS
.\CSS
.\Images
.\etc.
\PDF

Maybe it's on the wish list of Kovid?

calibre will (largely) preserve the structure of the input files you feed it. (except for the splitting, but that's necessary)

I just got into ebooks and readers and I find Calibre a great tool. I didn't know the creator of the program was a member of this forum. That's great. BTW, do you have any tips on removing DRM? I'm only kidding I saw your footnote.

OK, does that mean that when I have a directory structure as mentioned in my post Calibre preserves that?

yes, except for CSS, since calibre combines all CSS into a single stylesheet.

I recently bought PRS-505, I barely found it, my friend bought it for me in Vienna for 199€.

I have a question, I need to to be able to see the letters č-ć-š-đ-ž in PRS-505. LRF is good, I got these letters, but I don't have them in EPUB, instead I getting a question mark "?".

I use Calibre (great program) to convert books from HTML to LRF and EPUB. LRF is good, but in EPUB I get question mark instead.

Source HTML has "charset=windows-1250", so I set HTML 2 ZIP plugin in Calibre Preferences to "windows-1250". That way I get great LRF, but not so great EPUB because I get those question marks instead of č-ć-ž-š-đ on reader and in Sony Reader Library preview (Calibre preview looks OK). I noticed that Sony Reader Library preview is more accurate than Viewer in Calibre. What I see in Reader Library preview is what I get on PRS-505.

Does anyone know how to accomplish that EPUB show these letters od PRS-505? They belong to UTF-8 and windows-1250 charsets.

Look for threads on either replacing the epub fonts in the sony reader or using extra css in calibre and uploading the correct fonts to the reader.

Will PRSCustomizer be able to help because in his features says "Unicode fonts with Cyrillic/Eastern European Support"?

epub from odt from en.wikipedia Special:Book

Hi:

After creating a book with http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Book and saving the resulting file in odt format I tried to convert it with Calibre (thanks again, Ph.D. Kovid Goyal ). Conversion to lrf works ok. Conversion to epub results in overlaping images and text (both in my prs and in calibre ebook viewer). I attach a screen capture.

FYI, the images are not displayed at all in open office!! But Calibre could deal with them, interestingly.

Regards.

LRF output linearizes images. EPUB preserves the way they are in the input document, hence the discrepancy.

Some of the books I have converted to epub in Calibre get progressively slower page turns the further into the book I go. I'm in the middle of a 550 page book and every time I turn the page it takes around 10 seconds and sometimes I get the turning arrows (wait symbol). I am using a Sony PRS-505 and Calibre 0.6.45. I have not noticed this with any of the commercial epubs I have bought.
