(I guess the original death was in the Vent & Rant thread, so it makes sense to put the followup here too. I'm glad he re-linked to the original. )

Grr...I should have read online directions on how to fold a burrito. My recipe was rather vague and I had a hell of a time winging it. Not to mention my recipe made enough filling for the second coming, so I had to stick the rest of the filler in the fridge until I go to the grocery store tomorrow to pick up more tortillas. I'll make the rest tomorrow, and off to the freezer they go. I think I'm going to give a bunch to my part time vegetarian little sister. Any other takers?

it's best if you arbitrarily deem one end the bottom and fold it up over the contents and then the sides in. kind of like a diaper

Kindlekitten used to write for Gourmet until, one day, her pot boiled over, leading to the infamous incident known in the magazine publishing industry as "The Geoduck Article". Some say it's the real cause for the magazine's end. I don't know.

Anyway, her culinary analogies haven't been the same since (personally I think they've got much better post-GA than they were pre-GA).

Cheers,
Marc

Why in the world does the government send me a letter telling me that in a day or two I'll be receiving the 2010 census form in the mail when they've been telling me that on TV, radio, and newspapers since the first of the year.

Sure enough, two days after getting that letter, I receive my census form. They want the information to reflect the household condition as of April 1st, but they want the form returned now. (Hold on while I grab my official government-sanctioned see-into-the-future pen so I can answer future facts today. Goodness forbid I should be hit by a bus before April 1st. I could be prosecuted for lying on the census form.)

Okay, then 2 days later I get a post card from the government saying that they've sent me the form (duh) and to please fill it out and send it back now (note that it still isn't April 1st). If I don't fill it out I will be fined $5,000 (for contempt of census I guess).

I'm expecting another postcard today telling me they have yet to receive my completed census form and what am I waiting for?

. . . April 1st, that's what!!!!

Within one month of buying our brand-new bicycles, and before we had time to even really get them dirty, one of them got stolen. They were chained to each other and to an unmovable iron bar in an underground garage supervised by cctv. It turns out the image quality of the cctv was such as to show that it was beings of a human form that did it, but nothing more. Good to know it was not a family of otters that took the bicycle, but not much help otherwise. The police couldn't do much except be kind and understanding. The remaining bicycle had some little components missing too, and I lovingly took it inside the flat (not allowed but I didn't care) and had it staring at me for another month before I found the willpower to fix it and lock it outside again. I felt violated, vulnerable and disappointed. Then I got over it.

I had it secured with three different chains, and checked daily. Frame, front wheel, back wheel, seat, everything that could be removed was locked. After a few blissfully uneventful months I felt safer. And today I went to take it for a ride, spent the whole two minutes it takes to unlock all chains, and then found out that the handlebar came right off, and couldn't steer the bicycle at all. Some really minor components were missing from the handlebar, of which I don't even know the names. Nothing more. A total 8 pounds cost. Probably were trying to steal the fork, the repair guy told me.

And now I'm feeling vulnerable again. And angry. I mean what is it with these people? I had to cancel an appointment because of all that, and a nice ride, and spend the rest of the day looking at everyone I come across as a potential bicycle thief. And constantly worry about what will be missing next the next time I will check on it...

You know, my brother-in-law (in Pennsylvania) told my husband the same thing. He said it asked a lot of personal information about banking and credit card accounts and such, too. I told him that it couldn't be the government census, but he insisted it was . . . until he got the real one. Now he says that it was something else, yet he didn't say what. Can't imagine what it really was, unless it was a scam. Hope yours wasn't.

I know there wasn't anything about banks/credit cards on it. I wouldn't have answered that anyway, but I do distinctly remember it asking for names and phone numbers etc. More or less exactly like the "real" census form. Maybe it was a state or county form???
