There's a quite different sentiment to the novels. 'Stardust' is much more 'fairy-tale' like and light in tone and definitely more whimsical in comparison. 'American Gods' is heavier, serious, it requires more of its reader.

Edit, added: It took me three tries to get into 'Neverwhere', but when I first got started I liked it. Overall, I think I like Gaiman best when he's more serious and 'adult' than whimsical.

Just finished Werewolf Smackdown, might be his best novel yet. I think I will start Night of Thunder by Stephen Hunter. It is a Bob Swager story set in Bristol TN. around a NASCAR event and an attack on his daughter.

Neil Gaiman doesn't seem to do 'series'. Every book is different. There's a 2006 interview with him (http://www.bookslut.com/features/2006_10_010057.php) that addresses this.

The publisher said, “Yeah, but American Gods was a New York Times bestseller, and we have to push that.” Yeah, but it’s a different book. I didn’t want people with expectations for more of the same. If you want more of the same with American Gods, there’s a Shadow story in Fragile Things.

I didn't mean I wanted a series, I want another big, well-crafted story with rich world-building. This is one instance where his "big" book is much better than his little ones. Of course this is only my opinion...

Just started reading The Murder Book. Yesterday I was able to find 3 Jonathan Kellerman book at NYPL that I haven't read. I only have until the end of May when my NYPL card expires (they won't renew for non-resident) so I'm reading as much from there as I can. Meanwhile I have lots of wonderful books sitting in Calibre which I plan to read after I can no longer access the NYPL: The Girls With the
Dragon Tatoo and the remainder of the Diana Gabaldon series among others.

Just finished reading The Days of Babylon: An Autobiography of a Former Stoner by Timothy L. Nix. It details events that are sometimes funny, other times tragic, and best of all, it tells how the author met his wife Bambi; better known to folks here at MobileRead as DixieGal. The book has a ring of brutal honesty, and is especially recommended for everyone who wants to know D.G. a bit better.
