I have a sneaking suspicion that AutoUpdate (where they go to a remote server, see if there are any updates, download them, update themselves) causes a lot of problems for many people. I know I'm old-fashioned, but I do NOT like my software acting independently, dammit!!! It's possible to turn autoupdate off, but in Thunderbird you have to go to the Advanced Advanced text settings to do it...

I have a choice to update, maybe in future I'll say no ... unless they implement a 'quicker' version....

Might be faster if you tell them not to check for available updates, too?

I thought that must contain a hidden message, but if it were Morse code, it would spell "shsis".

Dag-nabbit! Blast them gol-dang birds to Blazes!

There’s a tree where we park our car, and those gol-dang feathered varmints won’t cut our poor car any slack! I’ve tried pairs of pie-plates, wind-chimes, and rubber snakes, and it only inspires the birds to call all their friends to show off the way I decorated the tree! They think it’s Christmas!

Any suggestions for keeping the birds out of that tree?

The only thing I can come up with at this point is to admit defeat and paint the car white.

If your problem is little bitty songbirds, this should deter most of them. If your problem is owls, this might make it worse.

Thanks for the suggestion, Fledchen! I just ordered one from Amazon. If it works, I'll get one for the garden as well.

If it works, I'll miss their songs, but I won't miss having to constantly hose down the car!

Might be better to get a garage.

Those owl-things never seem to work. I see birds sitting on top of them all the time.

The owls that I've seen NOT working are not animated. Maybe the animated one(s) will work....

Sounds like you're already tried most of what I've heard of...

That's the way I feel about the squirrels here. I've tried just about everything, nothing much seems to work. Best I've been able to do is put up bird feeders with cages around them. They do keep the squirrels out, but only small-medium birds can use them.
