Words that should be outlawed or restricted.
There are many words that, by virtue of their being irritating as blazes, should be outlawed or at least be treated as controlled substances that require proper authorization prior to use. The first word that comes to my mind is "veggies". Now, to be sure, veggies is a perfectly good term to use when addressing babies and toddlers about their need for proper nutrition; but for someone who has reached puberty, using baby talk to describe dietary elements is just bizarre. I therefore propose that veggies, as a term, should be banned by law for use by the general population; and the only people who should be licensed to use it should be parents of preschoolers. Who's with me?

And what word would you like to see banned or restricted?

I think along with the term "potty" the words "poopoo" and "peepee" should be restricted to parents of children under the age of 2, and children under the age of 2. I think any teachers or instructors using these terms should be severely punished.

I would add that it's a word you use more towards the immature than for totters or babies. Those that still don't admit vegetables are good for the human body. In this case that irritating "veggie" is a desguised derogatory word meant to belittle someone who refuses to face the truth.

My beef would be about people using the words "Look" and "Listen" as an interjection at the beginning of a sentence. You don't need to give me an order to pay attention at everything you say.

My most irritating word won't mean much to most but it's "race condition" my co-worker uses it constantly to describe any software contingency issue or even non-contingency issues. It drives me crazy because is is a hardware oriented term!!! AiiiiEEEE!!

Judging from his writings, Pope Benedict's favorite word is hermeneutics.

Dictionary.com defines it as "the science of interpretation, esp. of the Scriptures."

Synonyms include exploration, investigation and interpretation.

Hermeneutics gets my vote!
