Hmm... the US Govt isn't known for running stuff efficiently. Look at medicare and medicade. Rather than a public option I would rather see some type of tax credit for heath costs somehow scaled based on your income. Also, deregulation a bit so insurance companies can go intersate which will bring more competition and lower prices.

I mean, the current deduction for medical expenses now only kicks in for expenses that exceed 35% of your income. I mean, who can afford to spend 35% of their income on medical expenses?

I really think more important than heath care issues are tax reform. I am a staunch supported of the fair tax... but even a simple flat income tax that could eliminate all the record keeping and the expense of the IRS would be better than the clusterfrack we have now. Everyone suffers to pay for stuff in a bad economy... health care isn't the only thing a lot of people can't afford.

a voté ! just got back. i didn't vote last week (i had a really good excuse though...) and i felt really ashamed and guilty. when i signed, and there was the giant empty space from last week staring at me reproachfully i felt like i should give them some explanation or justification for not fulfilling my civic duty. well, at least today i did it !

Errr... because it's our civic duty?

And also to elect our regional councils. Which isn't very exciting for many people. Mayors are closer, and députés make laws, and the president... well he has to have some use I'm sure. And European elections get a lot of media coverage because they're always an occasion to vote for/against the Union, and we French always have that secret notion that we should be the ones running it. But regional elections... that's too far away for the local level, and not exciting enough for the national.

I hope the turnout was better than last week! Zelda voted, so that's one more

I have a prediction for twenty years from now if Health Care passes. Mark my word! Save this post!

If Health care passes, conservative politicians in twenty years will run on promises to keep Health Care coming to all Americans; just as they now run on promises to protect Social Security and Medicare—both of which they fought against tooth and nail when they were first proposed.
