Yes, does anyone have it? I have been trying and trying to get this to work so I can check out library books. This is the one area where I think the Nook would have been a better choice.

Unless you can strip the DRM, the Kindle is not as good a choice if Amazon is going to be dropping eBooks from some publishers.

But, it won't happen. It is a tactic. Remember when Time Warner said you were going to loose a whole bunch of channels (I can't remember the media groups name)... of course, it never happened. There was a last hour agreement hammered out. Believe me.. McMillan doesn't want Amazon to stop selling their pbooks nor does Amazon want to stop selling them. BOb |

Does anyone know where I can get a copy of Mobipocket Desktop 6.0? I can't seem to get kidlepid to work for me. It keeps telling me "unrecognized serial #". I read elsewhere that there are no "O's" (letter O) in the serial #, so I'm using "0's" (zeroes), and it's not recognizing it. I've tried almost every other combination. Thought going the Mobipocket Desktop 6.0 way might be easier. I'm running Vista, so maybe that's not even possible. If that's true, I'll try it on an older laptop. Thanks in advance.

The alternative is to borrow the MOBI lending library ebook with Windows MobiPocket Reader (say), and then strip the DRM to get a DRM-free MOBI which works on your Kindle. Unlike stripping DRM from ebooks you bought, this is probably not covered by fair use in the US. But it is ethical if you delete the DRM-free version when the library lending period expires. There is a stand alone python script, mobidedrm, or a Calibre plugin, that does this. See the tools_2.4 bundle. As usual, Apprentice Alf's Blog is the best source of all info about DRM issues. There are similar scripts and plugins for Adobe ePub lending library ebooks. |
