I really sweated the request. I mean I had JUST given it to him for Christmas. reading was one of our bonds and shared passions. the woman he is married to right now is his 3rd wife and wasn't even living with him when he died. that was one of the reasons I was supposed to go back down there when my leg healed. it was a diet book that was ordered. he claimed it was his wife/girlfriend who supposedly doesn't speak english...

She should be thankful it wasn't the $5K Nuclear Energy Handbook (not it's real name) that was once the most expensive book in the Kindle store.

I just spoke with the executor about a lot of different things, that being one of them. apparently recent gifts, especially expensive ones are almost always returned to the giver, you just have to speak up. I think I kind of knew that and was then able to step beyond the perceived veil of tackiness

for right now I'm going to keep it on. if anyone says anything when all is said and done, I can say "look where it is registered, who had paid anything and who gifted it." since they now know that I am notified immediately of any purchases, I don't think there will be anymore

In that case, it is much less tacky. In fact I'd go so far as to say it is more tacky for her to swoop in like a vulture and pick over his stuff.

yes, the book was in english. and to correct any misconception, wife #3 is still in the states, hasn't poked around anything (well except bank accounts). it's his sort of business partner and his girlfriend/wife that were messing around with the kindle

Very minor rant - had a blood test done today. The person who did it ignored all my suggestions to go for the smaller vein she could only just feel and instead prodded around a bit (with her finger, thankfully, not like one dr who prodded around with the needle... to find a vein) and decided to go with a larger vein she found. Which promptly tried to escape out the back of my elbow making it more painful(*) and take longer than usual. The other effect of it is that it has given my left elbow a dull ache for most of the day

(*by which I mean I actually felt slight sharp stab as the needle went in. Normally it's not actually painful at all)

Sorry Am better soon!

I was at the doctor and mentioned a small 1/4" circular growth on my inner right arm. He said it was just a benign tumor/growth and would freeze it......he proceeded to freeze right through to my elbow! I had an oozing blister there for three days a bleeding scab for three or four days and now what looks like a scab in the lower reaches of a moon-like crater!

Yes some phlebotomists are very good. You don't feel anything and there is never a bruise... or maybe just a very small one.

Others poke and prod with the needle... it hurts like hell and at the end of the day you have a major shiner on the inside of your elbow that lasts a few weeks. They of course claim you are a "hard stick". Like it's my fault that they suck at their job.

I feel your pain, Am. I've come down with some weird glandular infection in my neck and had to have blood drawn. The girl poked around first one arm and then the other for several minutes looking for the optimal vein to use. In the end she used the first arm (my left) and left me with a HUGE bruise.

I use that word all the time. Just the other day, someone asked me if it constantly rains hard in Seattle. I said, "It rains a lot, but it's mostly lighter sprinkles that come and go; kind of like a bunch of phlebotomists rather than constant downpours."
