AFAIK the txtr app is the only iphone app which supports adobe drm. And it displays those fine.

Txtr announced back when the iPad was first launched that they would be working on an iPad app.
I'm not familiar with txtr but even with the Reader, I never bought any Sony books because their software didn't work with my Mac.

It does now. I find that I first look for a book on Sony and then Amazon. I do de-DRM my books so I can read on the book reader of my choice (currently Sony 505, but I did pre-order the iPad). I prefer Sony because it's a lot easier for me to browse for books there than on Amazon. I quickly get frustrated browsing thru the pages and pages of PD books or self published books before seeing any regular books. Amazon is great if I'm looking for a specific author though.

I had the PRS-500 and my Mac wouldn't see it because Sony decided not to make their Mac store compatible with the reader I had. I've since sold the 500 and an using the iPhone as a reader instead. If I like the iPad after I play with it at the Apple store, I will probably buy one.

There are some other places... Gee I recall Sony store as a pain and Amazon much better to look around... especially since it has reviews.

There are other book stores that sell Adobe DRMed ePubs that you might want to check out... BooksOnBoard.com and fictionwise.com and kobobooks.com and http://www.diesel-ebooks.com/ .

Then, of course if you get the iPad you will have the Apple Store. I expect that since Fairplay is already cracked and crack for the iBook's won't take to long to start making the pastebin circuit.

But if he had a PRS500 without the ePub update, it only will read BBeB files not ePub, so he can only buy book on the sony's store

I really appreciate the discussion this has turned into. I have a lot more hope moving forward with ANY device at this point. I am looking to "free" my books....been struggling with it, but hopefully someones advice may work tonight

I like Sony's Readers and E-Ink, but if I could get a nice bright backlit screen with the iPad, I may just move in that direction.

I had tried it, but that screen was too difficult to read....iPads backlighting looks like what I would ultimately like for reading. Not to mention the other features it comes with.....I have my iPod for music, the video should look amazing along with a better mobile internet experience. All comes down to if I could get the darn DRM removed

I'm moving from Sony 505 to iPad for reading as well. They made the sale when they announced that the native book app would support DRM free ebooks so I can buy from wherever I want and then convert it to DRM free ePub (if it is not already there).

I went with the G3 version so I have to wait longer but I think it is worth the wait to avoid remorse for missing the connectivity option and GPS. Would rather have it and not need it than want it and not have it.

Good point. I think it I did get one I would also get the 3G... I would mostly not use it... but perhaps get it for the month were we drive 1500 miles up to New England to visit family. It would be nice to use it in the car.

Of course, I guess I could get a pre-paid MyFi device too... and not need the 3G.

Doug, I just struggled mightily to "free" my wife's DRM'd Sony Epubs and succeeded, after some false starts. PM me for my email address if you want some help with the process. It was a little bit frustrating, but what I found to be significant was using the "right" version of Adobe Digital Editions, and the "right" accomanying python scripts. Once I hit that sweet spot, I was able to enable my wife's iPad to read my wife's epubs from Sony.

It's been a month since the last update to this thread, and I just thought I'd revive it, well, because my iPad is coming (France) today or tomorrow, and I sold my Sony PRS-600, so I've got several Adobe Digital Edition DRM books I'd like to read on my iPad.

Has there been any way to simply READ those books on my iPad? Can I register my iPad as a computer with Adobe? Or am I scr#(*)ed?

Thanks...R
