I think you have fun playing little miss bitch. I'm done with you unless you have something of value you'd like to bring to the thread?

My impression is that page numbers will be hard on any electronic device if your not sticking to a fixed size format. I mean how would you count the pages, you can't because it will vary from screen to screen given the size of it. For this to work you would need a PDF-document that would stay the same size on every device.

Oh, and by the way welcome to MR GalinAZ.

Here's an interesting blog post (short) about page number mapping in ADE EPUB.

Page numbers really don't make much sense in reflowable formats. Yet as a reader, I know it's nice to have some idea of both how long the book is, and where I am in the book - and there's as many implementations of these features as there's e-book readers. I've gotten used to Kindle's 'locations', but it was rather confusing at first and I still don't like it.

I've also gotten used to Kindle's indicator. Like you I find it less important to know the exact page I'm on. Needless to say I'm not using the Kindle for researching since it's not suited for the task.

A 'page' that has some reference size-wise to a printed page is something that is more meaningful. But no-one seems to have come up with an alternative that really works for e-readers. Perhaps we should look all the way back to the scroll for a solution - I don't think they had page numbers either?

1) I can't add library e-books to it.
2) It doesn't have page numbers for the books like everything else published in the last 5 centuries
3) It has a teeny tiny keyboard instead of a touch screen like half a million phones manage to have
4) I can't read PDF documents (not the way they look on a PC anyway)
5) It's not a reading device it's a Amazon e-book selling device
6) I've got a PC (4, in fact) and a BB. I don't NEED another wireless device.
7) Searching for a "free" e-book on Amazon is frustrating. I don't want to read romance or "undiscovered" authors or born-again.

I figure I can sell this thing on Craigslist and for $200 get enough used paperbacks to last me until they come out with something truly useful.

Please convince me otherwise.
I won't even try to. You obviously don't like your gift. Well, you don't have to, I've been told USA is a free country.
But someone tried to make you happy by buying you a Kindle.
If you dislike the Kindle, trade it for another reading device.
If you dislike ereaders - give it back to the person who gave it to you, and explain him/her that Kindle just isn't the right gift for you.
Selling the Kindle and then buying a bunch of other books or whatever... lets just say, that if I had given you a 260$ gift to find out you sold it and spent the money on [whatever] I would give you a backhanded slap and never look at you again.

It's not half as useless as you first thought but it's not half as good as some of the alternatives now hehe.

I think from the initial post some people thought he was a troll but he's not! Some strange people like to troll the forums of devices they don't like and flaunt their limitations.

IMO if you are upset by the limitations (some of your criticisms are justified and have to be 'hacked' to get around) I'd just sell it and wait for the new Kindle 3 to be released and see if it's better or look at alternatives (like iPad/Sony/Nook).

I find it interesting how you talk about 'manners', yet you have a link to your photography website which can't be reached by my machine because of all the malware (as found by MalwareBytes) on it. Seems to me that one should also have 'manners' enough to not load malware onto one's site, hmmm...

pal, I think you have a problem with your "malwarebyte" software. I had no problem at all with her site. You must be getting false positives.

I do have a problem with her manners, lol.

Thank you all for the guidance and points of view. I think I'll sell it and wait to see if future versions address some of the limitations.

I'm not comfortable doing illegal hacking, "free speech" issues aside. I would hope that e-books follow the path of music formats and come to some common format that can be shared across all platforms.

And by the way, I am a lady "Gal" in "AZ" (for Arizona).
