I have a collection of Trenet's songs called 'Le Jardin Extraordinaire', Boum! is the first song on it and whenever I hear it I want to buy a bicycle and spend the summer on the coast visiting Art Deco cafes and sipping espresso (I'm weird that way). Also it reminds me of Tati (I always see Monsieur Hulot in my head when I'm listening)

nah, i get that. and i can see the tati association too, although i didn't have that myself (i might now).

What a voice Trenet had I heard that he would only sing songs he actually wrote, but I'm not sure if that's true. I think the Hulot association comes from mixing all things French in my head. When I was studying film I spent a considerable time on the Nouvelle Vague and watched ridiculous amounts of French cinema - Truffaut, Godard, Chabrol etc - but I only came to Tati later on, so it's a lot more vivid in my head
