Daylight Saving this weekend, for those who live in jurisdictions who require it.

Daylight Savings Time is the work of the devil! Stealing an hour! Takes me months to recover (my biological clock is VERY stubborn!) Not to mention the cats' biological clocks! It's not fair!!! (inject annoying falsetto whiny tone here)

No, it's not. I had to work once during the summer --> winter time change. Of course we didn't get paid the extra hour with the explanation "Well, in six months you get one hour less to work". OK, crappy, but remotely fair. So what do they do after six months? The make an "open end" party (because of the time change) so we close at 7 instead at 5 a.m. Guess out of three if we got the two hours paid...

I'm pretty sure if you are a non-exempt employee this is illegal. They have to pay you for the hours you work. What if you aren't there 6 months later?

I don't know the term, but no matter how you look at it - it sucks. And in my case there really wasn't much I could do in the situation. Still, what I could, I did it.

Edit: Ah, the almighty Google - yes, I was a non-exempt employee.

I see you are in Germany. At least in the US there are government places where you can report stuff like this. The employer has to come into compliance and are usually fined for each instance when stuff like this happens.

Yes there are. But back then it really wasn't an option for me to start such a procedure. Anyway, this chapter of my life is closed now and I'm actually enjoying and being deeply grateful for my current work.

Me too! It gets dark about 4:30 in the winter here...if we stayed on DST all the time, at least it wouldn't be quite so dreary then. On a second shift schedule during the winter I sometimes feel as if I live in the dark.
