Onyx Boox 60 review - Page 19

I think about testing the Onyx Boox firmware 1.3 on my BeBook Neo. Problem is: As long as there's no Neo firmware for download, I don't have any way back.
One of the features I'm interested in, is the shopping feature.
Can anybody post a picture of the ebookmall on Onyx Boox, to see the difference? It's not described in the manual.

Below some pics, what it looks like on BeBook Neo. Just linking to standard websites.

There is no ebookmall on the Onyx Boox. But you can go to any bookshop in the Internet browser. In the Onyx Boox firmware 1.3 you can type the URL in an address bar. In other words, you can do the same shopping as in the Neo firmware, only you don't have the shortcuts.

BTW, you can make screenshots by pressing the vol+ and vol- buttons at the bottom of the device at the same time. Screenshots will go to a folder called Snapshot on your SD card.

Didn't know about the snapshot feature. Cool, thanks. It's really a feature-ladden unit...

Doesn't it look like the attached picture? I've downloaded it from http://www.ebookreader-info.de/Onyx-Boox-60.100.0.html
I've expected something similar to the pictures I've posted before behind the link "online shops"...

No, there is no icon for "Online shops" in the Onyx Boox firmware. But once again: you don't need it, you can browse to any webshop.

According to a Russian specialist Evtrs, who got inside of the Boox firmware, the problem of short lived battery is caused by the software and can be solved. So, hopefully, in next firmware updates, the problem will be fixed.

Great news. Honestly I was a little disappointed with the battery performance.

How would you prefer that it worked?

I would like to be able to transfer a file, and then look at it without having to disconnect. I was trying out different reformatting options in Calibre, and it was a real pain to either have to disconnect the Boox, or to remove and then reinsert the SD card to see how it looked.

that's just the way the usb works. its not device specific its usb specific

I guess I expected it to work like my phone - I have a few options when I connect it - media transfer, mass storage, PC suite - and can still use my calendar, make calls, write notes, transfer files, etc.

i think i can still use my phone when its connected too. haven't done it in ages.

I don't have a Boox, I have a Pocketbook 360, but I wish it acted like my iPhone as well. I was surprised that I had to choose between connecting to the PC or charging and being able to still read.

With the iPhone connected to the USB you can charge/transfer files/keep using the device all at the same time.

There were several people affected by the wall charger snafu. All will be getting them sent to them free of charge when we get them. As Mike said we are working together to resolve that as quickly as we can.
