No Credit Card was used.

We foreigners had to use wired transfer. So I'm wondering how a refund would look like in that case. Would they send some HP owls

If TigerDirect took your money already, then they should be made accountable for their mistake. If I have yet to pay for an item, then they can say the price is a mistake and fix it. But most stores in the USA will honor the price while they send some lackey to fix it.

Yep have to agree with this 100%......... not very nice to take your money and then claim ooops we made a mistake you need to pay us more..... that would not be very good PR IMO..... they need to honor their mistake, or they should anyways.

they might have had second thoughts.
What I do NOT think (because it's too "bad"!) is: let people transfer money. THEN tell them you want some more... SOME may send it. (no. that would be really mean. no.)
I absolutely agree with you on this one. If you wire-transferred money to them, then they should honor their agreement with you. I also think that since so many orders have been filled, if you were able to get in on the order it should be honored as well. They're losing potential customers by using such scare tactics to get people to reneg on their orders. I say stick with it, considering the fact that they shipped many units already this indicates that they intended to fill these orders and so should fill all orders placed during the special.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for all of you!

Hi! (...speaking of TigerDirect...)

ATTENTION: Below on this page (#87) there is a NEW POST as TigerDirect finally "found" some Sonys to ship after all !!!

I just wondered if there's anyone here who has real-life experience with companies that do not want to keep their "Order Confirmation" or similar.

Is there someone here? maybe even with a legal background? ...or an acquaintance/friend who's in this business?

I'd be VERY grateful for foolproof information concerning laws in the US.

In Germany there are "Verbraucherschutzvereine". These "organisations for customer rights protection" can be consulted in cases of incorrect behaviour towards customers and may formulate letters for you. They even sometimes pass on cases to public prosecutors (like any citizen can, of course).
Is there anything like that in the US?

I normally am not a "Rambo", but I will go on vacation in a week's time. I feel I should give people at TigerDirect something to keep'em busy for those 2 weeks.
(I'd really appreciate any other/better ideas, bytheway...)

Thanks for ANY hints! and goodnight ... (10pm here)
.

"TigerDirect site / My Account / Track Your Order" says:

> Order No: P869xxx
> Date of Order: 07/04/07
> Order Status: Cancelled - These items have been cancelled.

This nearly makes me cry. I am disappointed. How can they do this...

(One hope left: CAN they really do this to me?!?
Isn't here anybody who can help me? I can do next to nothing here from Germany.)

So this may be my last reply (to this thread).
S.O.S.! Anyone here who can help???

I just opened a new thread (incl. a poll!):

Unfortunately what they are doing, although not very good "P.R.", is almost certainly not illegal. If they've exceeded the number of units which were available for sale at the lower price, they are perfectly within their rights to cancel orders. It stinks, but it is legal and there's nothing you can do about it.

Hi Harry!

I hope you are not actually very well acquainted with American laws (otherwise: bad for me).
I still hope there will be some reply here that gives me a chance for a "fried-my-poodle-in-the-microwave - get $2-million" case. (America is definitely not the UK - and not Germany, is it? But then I only want a Sony ereader - should I ask for a million $ instead, perhaps???)

A manager at TigerDirect just emailed me asking whether I still want my Sony(s) or would prefer a refund.

(Two hours before my order had been cancelled completely...)

I start to wonder if there is a hidden camera somewhere.

There's always the Better Business Bureau. You can file a complaint with them and if enough people do this, it reflects poorly on them in the future. Not sure of any other consumer advocacy group you can consult with. Perhaps Google can provide you with some means of solace.

Azayzel:
thanks for your tip! (Better Business Bureau...)
that's just what I was looking for before they told me they found my Sony(s) somewhere.

Just for any case I now want to apologize to anybody here who's seen the whole excitement and may think I am someone who makes a big fuss for no reason.
maybe I did - maybe not. the whole excitement m a y have "helped" people at TigerDirect fo find my Sony(s).

Anyway I think it only fair to quote their explanation for all (my?) confusion:

Quote:
Dear Mr. Hladek,

My name is Roger Insua, I am one of the managers here at Tigerdirect.com. I am contacting you in regards to you order issues with the Sony E-book reader. First off, I would like to apologize to you for the problems you have encountered while ordering with us. Our sole intention is to market product at a competitive price, sell it and ship it. Unfortunately, we underestimated the volume of orders that were placed on this item. I was able to locate some units through some of our retail stores which I would be glad to fill your order with. If you prefer that we refund your money, please supply us with your bank's wire transfer info and your account info and I will expedite the refund, today.

Please let me know which of the two options you would prefer at this point and I will be happy to oblige.
If you would like the order shipped out, please confirm your shipping address for us. Thanks, again.

Regards,

ROGER INSUA
Of course I chose the option "fill your order with" units found at their retail stores!

Shortly afterwards (but at 11pm time Germany - only read it this morning) I got a second email by Mr. Insua
Quote:
Your new order confirmation # is P875xxxx.
If I could ask one more favor of you, if you would be so kind as to update your post or repost your online review of our store I/we would appreciate it tremendously
... which I am about to do now:

- My order has got a new order# (as the old one was cancelled).
- At "Track Your Order" there is displayed the correct price ($99.99) the first
time since I got their "Order Confirmation"! It says:
Order Status: All Backordered - These items are currently on backorder,
and will ship as soon as we receive stock on them.

So it seems that the whole affair has been an error. I simply have not been informed of the status correctly while TigerDirect found a solution to "the problems encountered while ordering with us."

I will edit my recent posts (in two threads) and hyperlink them to THIS POST.

Once I get a "Shipment Confirmation" and/or the order arrives here I will remark on it again here ...

UPDATE.0.8 alpha : "TigerDirect site / Track Your Order / Order Status" now says:
Order Status: Shipped
(07/24/07)

UPDATE.0.9 alpha : an email "Ship Confirmation" arrived last night!
I found my Tracking Number at UPS site, called in Frankfurt and was told package will arrive Friday morning!
(07/26/07)

UPDATE.1.0 : my SONYs are here!!!
they arrived TWO minutes before the scheduled time...
now i am going in vacation with one of them!
(07/26/07)

I'm grateful that they came through for you in the end, as we never had any issues such as this when we used them for corporate purchasing at my last job. They do tend to have some awesome deals. It's good to know that they are listening too! Please, keep us informed.

Huh. Wonder how long TD has been reading MobileRead ... perhaps they just have folks who do google searches for their company as part of their jobs.
