Out of curiosity, which is the new packaging? I got my reader a few days ago and it's the purple box (is that the new one?)

That firmware not changing bugs me a little. It's like it isn't necessary anymore. Is it because of something else in the works?

E-Ink seems to degrade a bit after a few weeks of usage. Thats why new readers always have better contrast.

The new viziplex screen will in fact have a lower contrast ratio than the current displays, but a higher reflection (white seems brighter). Viziplex is not beeing produced yet (October earliest), so its probably not a new hardware version of the reader.

the purple one is the old one. The one shown in this topic is the new packaging.

Is that degradation continuous over the life of the reader?

Mine hasn't darkened in ... what, eight or nine months? Not that I've noticed, anyway.

Where do you look up the serial? I'm not seeing it anywhere obvious. I've got the new unit with me now so I can send that out once educated.

As for photos, its a lost cause. My canon elph is just not able to resolve the text on the screen.

The serial number is on a little sticker on the back of the reader.

I think that's the highest SN we've seen so far, but it's not that far above the others (only ~5k). I haven't seen any indications that Sony has started using Vizplex. In fact, everything I have seen says that Vizplex isn't out yet.

I think it's most likely that you got an unusually 'white' example of the current stuff, rather than the new stuff (that's still a good thing).
