I've considered getting both my knee and sinuses operated on at the same time to get that 6 week vacation

But, my boss would only tell me to "suck it up" again like he did when I was in the hospital two weeks ago for a nasty asthma attack.

I hope you have a speedy recovery though. =( I'm terrified of knives.

In other news, I shot myself in the foot. Told my father I'm miserable with this agency. In no uncertain words, he told me that I should suck it up and if worse comes to worse, to be miserable there. Just like he was miserable for his 28 year career with the state.

Told him that was the most asinine piece of advice he could have given me. He was not amused.

Oh My! I agree it's bad advice. The world and careers are different even from when I started in the workforce. Life is too short to be miserable in a job.

It's the old conundrum - remain in a job that pays for all your toys & life style - but that sucks the life out of you. Or try to find something you can go to everyday without wanting to chew your foot off to escape. And it only gets worse as you get older - with more folk dependent upon your decisions. Not a comfortable situation.

Yep. I'm right there in the thick of it. Looking for a new job but having a hard time due to economy and ageism(imo) but despising the position I find myself in.

Doing what I can to remedy it.

Stick it out people till you get a job. I was in a job that made me ill and I just couldn't do it anymore so I quit. That was 15 months ago - still looking for work and not looking good

I still believe I made the right choice to quit before I have a new job. But I'd do it differently now that I know what happened with the economy - more ala suck-it-up-you-can-do-it.
