Yeah, there's no telling when it'll be available, nor at what price. I had a bad moment there for a second since I gave up waiting and ordered the iRex cover yesterday. I'd feel like such an idiot if this one could be ordered today, especially if a lot cheaper.

At least your embarrassment is spared. The design looks to be based on the Prodigy jacket for the Kindle - which is $50. Not sure how the external dimensions of the Kindle compare with the DR800, but looking at how they price things, size matters.

They emailed me a few weeks back after my initial query and said that they are aiming for late spring availability.
That latitude cover looks interesting, if it has no flex in the external surface area. |

I hope the m-edge cover doesn't use the dr800's retention holes so we can flip the cover 180 degrees.

Description on their site says it uses a 4 point mounting system. I'm assuming loops over each corner (similar to the picture that madusaya posted earlier in this thread). Of course, it's not actually available, so that design may change before it's released.

I'm not sure what device is in the placeholder picture, but I'm guessing it's a kindle 2 and it's using the built-in cover connectors for the left side, which makes me a bit nervous about the dr800 version.

Or maybe retention holes and two loops like their Kindle cover.

I got my cover from iRex yesterday. It ... will do the job, for now. Roughly equivalent to Amazon's early Kindle 2 cover at twice the price. The exterior leather feels nice, but it has a cloth over cardboard interior, which I don't like. The feel of felt (Kindle cover) or leather (Cybook cover) when the front cover is bent back for reading is so much better.
Oh, well. It looks like it'll do its main job satisfactorily: protect the screen. |

Thanks for the update. I'm still using a leather conference folder as a case for carrying it about and prefer to use it naked, (the reader that is!). So, given your feedback I'll probably hang on for third party options to appear.

I had sent an email to m-edge asking that they use elastic connectors for the four corners of their upcoming cover so we have the option to rotate the cover 180 degrees, which allows the cover to open to the right and not have the spine block the flipbar.
Like this: ![]() They replied that my email has been forwarded to the development department. They also mention that their covers are designed to be folded back. I still think holding the folded-back cover with my left hand relies too much on friction to keep it from slipping out. If the cover folded over from the right, then I can slip the cover edge between my left-hand fingers to get a better grip. |
