My Kindle was once dropped on cement so hard that the back came partially off, and another time it slipped out of my hands and when I tried to catch it, I instead sent it sprawling across an asphalt parking lot about 15-20 feet. The first time it suffered no permanent damage, the second time it survived with minor scratches.

This morning it slid off my lap and gently hit the floor and died! I have committed Kindlesaughter!

I just placed a next day order to Amazon for a new one.

If they come out next week with a touchscreen K3, I'm killing somebody!

I'm sorry for your lost. Let us know when the funeral is, so we can send you flowers.

Why is it that it's always the tiniest bump that breaks objects? It's so annoying! I hope you next K2 arrives quickly and safely, and that it stays with you for years. I also hope that no K3 with a touch screen gets out before loooooong years...

I'm thinking this would be a good time to perform an autopsy. Always wondered what's on the inside of these buggers.

What do we learn from this experience? If your reader is about to fall down, make sure it crashes down hard (and preferably in a spectacular fashion). Gentle handling will break the screen every time. You have to be cruel to be kind.

Is Kindleslaughter a crime? What about Kindlecide? Was it a crime of passion?

You know it! Good thing all my books are backed-up.

Well, the screen didn't break, it just kind of made its own bit of abstract art.

But you're right. If ever I see it again making a gentle two-foot slide to the floor, I'll smack it as hard as I can before it hits to keep it from breaking!

Oh No, Tom! That is one of those moments when your heart falls down into your tummy. So, tell me... why didn't you upgrade to a 505? (runs for cover, giggling maniacally)

Japanese has lots of homonyms; when one is texting, a little drop-down menu comes up when there is an ambiguity.
I have a book, I'jaam, (I haven't read it yet), about an Iraqi prisoner who writes a memoir in Arabic using no diacritical marks. It's a PB, which means I'll get to it after I've read all the stuff on my Kindle.

I did think about one of the Sony touchscreen models, but decided to stick with the devil I know!

On the other hand, I do with I'd bought a Sony Daily Edition instead of the Nook.
