It's pretty easy to move stuff from Calibre to the iPhone/Touch and the iPad should work the same way. You just use their content server.

Why would you need to rebuy anything?

I think you can with Stanza and the Calibre Server (which I still can't get to work) or Dropbox.

It totally depends on what drm and content management it offers. If the only books it will display are Apple (drm'd) books then you would have to rebuy them if you want to read them.

You don't actually trust Apple to do the right thing do you?

interesting points, I am willing to bet that the kindle app will work and I think calibre will also. Not to mention, if I hate it I am sure I can resell it on ebay

Considering that Apple lets you play your own MP3s on their devices and the fact that B&N has already said they are getting their iPhone app ready for the iPad, I'm not terribly concerned.

If Apple wanted to lock the book market up, they would've already given all the reader apps the boot from the app store and they have not.

Even if it were to be available here (no date known yet, but there is a date for our neighbours, even Australia will get it before us), I'd not buy it.

As a principle, i never pre-order anything.

Plus, i'm not interested in the iPad.

Nope, not going to preorder nor am I going to order at anytime in the future. The iPad doesn't offer any functionality that is of any value to me whatsoever, combined with the fact that I would need a Windows/OSX machine to utilise the iPad to its full potential counts me out.

I think I will have to pass.
I love the concept of the Ipad but the thing is just so bloody big. I could not imagine using that on the tube.
