My record was being stuck at 5-6 places on each arm/hand, all in about 3 days. A close friend of mine had a practical exam. After this I'm more or less immune to the experience. But I feel a bit like Pooh Bear - there must be a better way climbing down the stairs than bumping your head on every step - I just haven't figured it out jet...

Ha - now that's one of the benefits of spending a fair chunk of one's childhood in hospitals! Needles don't bother me a bit... unless they're in my spine... *shudder* Or unless they're regular heparin shots, because those things can leave a bruise the size of a grapefruit, and daft medical students will try to put the next one in the SAME DAMN SPOT!!!

Zelda, I think you need a chocolate croissant and a large coffee, stat!

Having taken Warfarin for a couple of years (thank God that’s over), I’m no stranger to blood draws. But I needed to have my hemoglobin checked the other week, and they assigned me a tech who was obviously in training.

I have very prominent veins, and blood draws are usually quite painless for me; but this one HURT! And she missed the vein! She panicked, and called a more qualified tech in to assist. This one pulled the needle out half way, re-oriented it towards the vein and stuck it back in. Wallah! The blood flowed and quickly filled the vial. I’m amazed that I didn’t get a huge hematoma from it.

thank you for the chocolate. that will definitely help. actually the labo i go to is not so bad, at least in the waiting room ; it's pretty antiseptic, but they have a gigantic aquarium filled with all kinds of exotic fish. i like aquariums.

actually, a large café au lait is precisely what i had as soon as i got home. no chocolate croissant but i did have 2 slices of toast with butter (that's my usual breakfast). and a glass of juice first, to get my blood sugar up so i didn't pass out waiting for the coffee.

gaaa ! horrible. i look a bit like a junkie at the moment as i've got two lovely bruises (particularly the side the guy kept pressing on), and it's a bit sore, but it could be worse. the last time one of my friends gave blood (donated, not for a test) i don't know how they managed it but he had a huge bruise that covered almost his entire arm !

He's got a point. Needles don't keep you awake at night making a high-pitched humming all around your head. That noise could drive you round the twist!

(And I don't come up in lumps the size of golfballs from needles)

Sounds like you passed the test with flying colours (Well, colour (singular), because I guess it would only have been red... or maybe blue...)

Actually O- and AB+ are the best. Because O- is a universal donor but every better if you are AB+ you are a universal recipient and you can take ANY blood type that is available if you need blood.

Argh. When going through my RSS reader, I need to remember to read the potentially angering/depressing stuff first, and save the funny cat pictures for a de-stressing chaser.

don't be silly. if O- was the best, they would have called it A ! it doesn't even get a + in front ! as for AB+, well, if they can't even make up their mind about what to call it...

I too am A rh+, so I've got to agree really.

I hope that the surgery goes very well, Zelda and that you make a very speedy recovery.
